They have applied to the state Department of Environmental Conservation to operate the well in MonDroe capable of producing 450 gallons per minute. By contrast, the most powerful wells in Kiryas Yoel’s arsenal can pump no more than 220 gallons per minute.
The state DEC is soliciting written comments on the proposal through June 3. The agency will determine how many hours a day Kiryas Yoel could pump the well if and when it issues a permit. If approved, the well could be on line within two months.
