Swan Lake, NY – Skulener Rebbe In The Catskills

    14

Swan Lake, NY – After undergoing specialized surgery in Los Angeles, Rabbi Yisroel Avrohom Portugal, revered Skulener Rebbe, returned to New York, after three months of recuperation, but instead of returning to his home in Boro Park, the Rebbe was brought to the Satmar Divrei Yoel boys camp in Swan Lake in the Catskills.
At his home, he would have been beleaguered, from early in the morning to late at night, by the thousands of petitioners who stream to his door in the days preceding and during the Yomim Noraim, many chassidim can not rest until they have the blessing of the Rebbe for the New Year.
So instead the decision was made to have the Rebbe continue his recuperation in a more relaxed pastoral setting far from the city.

Nevertheless, hundreds of his dedicated chassidim tended to him during the Yomim Noraim. Dozens assumed the roles of managers, waiters and attendants to facilitate and accommodate the larger-than-expected number of people who sought to be with the Rebbe. As one bus after another arrived through the gates, passengers were welcomed with food and drink, their luggage sent to their assigned sleeping quarters.

Throughout the holidays, delicious, plentiful food was supplied by Avrohom Shlomo Deutsch of Royal Manor. Each meal was graced by a d’var Torah from one of the Rebbe’s sons.

Who do people go to for “eitzahs” and “brachas” in his absence, if they are looking for someone similarly great, when he is not available? Please give recommendations on the blog.
