Monsey, NY – Black Bear Roaming In The Streets. Video


    Photo Credit: Journal News.Monsey, NY – The third and fourth reported black bear sightings in Rockland in a month happened today, with what appeared to be a black bear cub snooping around Lexington Avenue in Suffern.

    Two previous sightings were in Suffern on May 21 and Stony Point on May 12. Today’s sighting was reported at around 7:30 a.m.

    Suffern Sgt. Edgardo Alvarez said an officer spotted the bear and scared it away using his siren. He added that police cruisers were out circling the area just in case.

    The sergeant said, “So far we’ve been looking in the area. We haven’t seen it again.”

    Another bear was spotted in Monsey today and police reported this afternoon they were trying to trap it.

    A DEC worker shot the bear with a tranquilizer gun and it was put into a drum-like container to be transported to a state park. Hundreds of people looked on.

    1. What a dumb officer. Scare it away with a siren? So it will venture into a different neighborhood and possibly attack someone? Why not either shoot the beast or tranquilize it? All these stupid officers are good at giving tickets for talking on a cell phone.

      The bear was not talking on a cell phone. Did you actually want the cop to write a ticket to the bear?

    3. About 2 years ago a black bear climbed a tree in blueberry hill in Spring Valley and hung out. Environmental cops set up a net and tranquilized the bear, which fell to the ground..

    4. what is chaveirim doing there?!?!? are they crazy!?!?!?! Do they have special training to trap bears?!?!?! They do amazing work, but they shouls not endanger themselves!!!
