Southeast, NY – A 46-year-old Bronx man faces several felony charges after he was found carrying an American Express credit card with an account number that once belonged to former New York City Mayor David Dinkins, trying to withdraw $4,900 from the bank account.
Police say Christopher Bowman, of the Bronx, N.Y., was in possession of a fraudulent Louisiana State driver’s license and the American Express card at the Chase Bank inside the A&P Supermarket in the town of Southeast after bank officials became suspicious when Bowman attempted to make the large withdrawal.
Bowman was charged with third degree grand larceny, second degree criminal impersonation, second degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and second degree forgery.
Officials at American Express said that the account number on the fraudulent credit card once belonged to former New York City Mayor David Dinkins and had been discontinued by Dinkins after he was the victim of fraud.
Bowman was remanded to Putnam Jail on $50,000 secured bond. He is due back in Southeast court on Sept. 30. Investigation into the case is continuing.
It couldn’t have happenned to a more deserving victim. Maybe he dropped his credit card while playing tennis? Wonder if Dinkins will declare a “Day of Outrage”?
