Albany, NY – Further relief is in the works for unemployed New Yorkers as Governor David Paterson announces that he is extending the unemployment Insurance Benefit Bill.
The Senate has passed legislation that will provide an additional 13 weeks of extended benefits to almost 120,000 unemployed New Yorkers.
This week alone, 56,000 New Yorkers faced receiving their last unemployment check.
Governor Paterson said, “People who are out of work still need to spend money and the unemployment insurance we used specifically to inject resources back to our economy.”
Leaders said that extending unemployment benefits is an essential step and that programs like this will make the greatest difference in getting New York’s economy back on track.
