The Bloomberg matriarch, who turns 101 Saturday, isn’t expected to attend because of the cold weather.
“He’s going to see her the next day,” said his spokesman, Stu Loeser, noting that mother and son will celebrate her birthday near her Medford, Mass., home.
Bloomberg will be joined by daughters Emma and Georgina, sister Marjorie Tiven, and longtime girlfriend Diana Taylor when he’s sworn in for a third term on the steps of City Hall.
Mama Bloomberg attended previous inaugurations. City Hall declined to comment on her health.
Bloomberg will take the ceremonial oath of office shortly after noon and spend the day volunteering throughout the city.
He will officially be sworn in today by City Clerk Michael McSweeney in City Hall because all citywide politicians must take the oath of office before New Year’s Day.
Public Advocate Bill de Blasio did so yesterday in the city clerk’s office, swearing on a black Bible, signing the oath of office and paying a $9 fee. “It’s a humbling moment,” said de Blasio.
$9 to be sworn in, LOL. I wonder if he paid by cash, check or credit card? Wait, he probably had a check from his campaign contributions account…
She believes in term limits.
His mother ain’t going because she voted for Thompson.
Do all officials in the USA pay to be sworn in? I always assumed that the tax payer covers the fee of the registrar.
It’s nice to see a photo of the mayor taking care of his elderly mother.
