New York, NY – City Councilman Simcha Felder, a close ally of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg who supported his campaign to revise term limits, plans to resign from the Council to work for the new comptroller, John C. Liu, according to a City Hall official with with direct knowledge of the situation.

Mr. Felder, of Brooklyn, is expected to become a deputy comptroller for Mr. Liu, this person said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the move is not yet official.
A spokesman for Mr. Felder declined to comment. A spokeswoman for Mr. Liu also declined to comment. An announcement was expected late on Tuesday morning.
His plans to resign from the Council were first reporting on Tuesday morning by The New York Observer. His departure would trigger a special election for his seat.
Mr. Felder has experience in the comptroller’s office, having previously worked there. He is a certified public accountant, and holds a masters in business administration.
Mr. Felder has privately expressed an interest in leaving the Council, after two terms in office. He flirted with the idea of working for the Bloomberg administration, and is said to have repeatedly spoken with aides to the mayor about the possibility. Two years ago, with the support of Mr. Bloomberg and his top aides, Mr. Felder ran for state senate, but was defeated.
Mr. Liu’s decision to hire Mr. Felder will unite two of the Council’s most outspoken members. But the pair have not always agreed on policy:
Mr. Liu opposed rewriting term limits. Mr. Felder vigorously supported it.

YES! I Hope He Is Going. I Rely Dont Like What He Did With Term Lim.
And Joe Lazar the best candidate!
he will probably get paid much more by bloomy!
Simcha has done an exemplary job in his position on the City Council. His keen insight on issues facing both his constituency and the City as a whole have earned him the respect and adoration of City Council members and the City adminstration. It is to Simcha’s credit that even though he has opposed Mayor Bloomberg on many occasions, the Mayor can still consider him for an adminstration position. Kol Hakovod R’ Simcha and hatzlocho raboh. I consider it a privilege to be both represented by you and to call you my friend.
He shouldn’t of voted to extend term limits
guys lets get it started its noach Dear against david greenfeld lets see who is going to win
we need someone who wont help raise taxes
Simcha Felder has been a great friend to the communities that he has served for years. This is a real loss for the city council. Knowing Councilman Felder, he will thrive at his new position. He is an asset to any job that he puts his mind to. May he be blessed with many years of success and continuing to do mitzvos. Kol Hakavod Simcha!!
Breaking News!! Just in itsgoing to be a 3 way race Dear Greenfeld And Lazar
i think vinnews should put up a poll and see who is going to win
Sorry Mr. Felder I’m selfish and don’t want you to leave.
We need you as our Councilmember for the next 4 years.
time that he leves after voting for the highest increase in real estate tax and for being a shik yingle for bloomy.
Vote for Joe Lazar a true mentsch
Greenfield all the way baby!
i don’t live in N.Y. anymore so dont know about simcha felders policies in the city council, but i do remember him as my professor in Touro college,he was a nice guy.
felder is a real mentsch, sad to see him go. on the other hand iv’e been listening to joel lazar on the hikind radio program and he really seems to know what he’s talking about. would definitley want to hear what hes going to have to say in the coming weeks .
good luck at the comptroller’s office, simcha
I cannot conscientiously vote for David or Noach. One is a career politician who should be happy with the public position he currently holds and the other is a lobbyist.
Joe Lazar is someone who should be running, it’s a shame he isn’t. He has done so much work administratively with this city and knows the system like the back of his hand. I don’t think he has done anything to tarnish his reputation and would make a wonderful candidate. He’s also an “old timer” and can relate to the many sects and groups within Simchas district…
once again, boro park has to deal with elected the lesser of two evils and not the real deal.
Felder deserves a great opportunity like this. Both Greenfield and Dear should step aside and let some of the true Boro Park/Flatbush community askanim vie for the seat.
a poll by anonymous people voting is not really telling, as people may/can “vote” several times for their candidates….
Lets go Joe!
who is hikind going to endorse?
Joe lazar is running he is a very nice guy so we should go vote got him to bring him in he is the best candidate
I don’t understand. A city councilman can endorse somebody for city council but as a deputy comptroller Felder is not allowed to endorse anyone? Sounds like Chelm.
