New Jersey – New Jersey’s Senate voted against legalizing gay marriage Thursday.

The decision means there is little hope for a bill to be passed in the next four years.

However, just getting it to a vote was a coup for gay rights advocates who lost momentum in November when Republican Chris Christie was elected governor.

But his victory also gave gay rights advocates a greater sense of urgency. Gov. Jon Corzine says he’d sign the bill. Christie, who takes office Jan. 19, says he’d veto it.

New Jersey offers civil unions, which give gay couples the legal benefits of marriage but not the title.

Currently, only five U.S. states recognize gay marriage

B”H these people will not be hijacking marrige and getting tax benefits when they are not producing the next generation of taxpaying Americans.
New Jersey is still somewhat of a decent place to raise your children.

why is this a boruch hashem? Now instead of encouraging gays to form the same sort of stable families lives with spouses and children that we cherish, we continue to marginalize and reject them, and prevent them from having access to our institutions of family stability. Jerseyian, I can promise you these people will not now be going and raising “future taxpayers” because “boruch hashem” they can’t get married. And I can also tell you there’s not going to be any less mishgav zachar or any other aveirah going on because of this either.

The article is incorrect when it says “Currently, only five U.S. states recognize gay marriage”. In fact, only five states permit same sex marriages to be performed: New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Iowa. The District of Columbia has enacted a law permitting same sex marraiges to be performed there but law hasn’t gone into effect yet. However, New York and the District of Columbia also recognize same sex marriages that are performed in jurisdictions where it is legal.
