Brooklyn, NY – Avraham Tischler, the 18 year old candidate in the hotly contested race for City Council in Brooklyn’s 44th District, has until 5 PM today to submit a validating petition which will give him the opportunity to get back on the ballot for the March 23rd election. Tischler was removed from the ballot on March 2nd by the board of elections after a challenge to Tischler’s petitions invalidated approximately 800 of Tischler’s signatures.

Represented this afternoon by his father, Harold Tischler in State Supreme Court in Brooklyn, Tischler won his appeal and was given the opportunity to submit the validating petition, which gives him until Tuesday to validate some of the signatures which were disqualified. While approximately 800 signatures were rejected, Tischler only needs an additional 50 signatures to be reinstated on the ballot.
When asked by Judge Martin why the younger Tischler did not hire a lawyer to represent him, Harold Tischler explained that they had set a $1,000 limit on spending for this campaign and were not going to exceed it, because money should be spent helping the people of Brooklyn, not hiring lawyers to defend against technicalities.
In an exclusive interview with VIN News, Harold Tischler said “We believe that Greenfield’s lawyer is making an accusation, trying to deprive the community of their rights as citizens to vote for the candidate of their choice.” While Tischler claims that Greenfield says he does not have community support, Tischler has found quite the opposite and has been inundated with requests to fight back and get his name reinstated on the ballot.
Lazar Campaign Manager Gary Tilzer send the following statement to VIN News: “Greenfield filed a legal suit against everyone besides for us.. The Lazar Campaign did not take any of our opponents to court. and we were not in court today.”
Eric Kuo from the Greenfield campaign issued the following statement:
“Gary Tilzer is insulting the intelligence of this community if he thinks he’s going to get away with these lies. This is classic inside politics spin by the Lazar campaign. They filed four challenges against Mr. Tishler, knowing full well if successful, which they were, the issue would end up in court. Regardless, we will respect the court’s decision.”
why is greenfield afraid of an 18 year oild kid???
Greenfield’s true colors are showing with this lawsuit. As Dov Hikind famously said: this is an anyone but Greenfield campaign. I am glad to see that Tischler is not giving up. If Greenfiel loses votes to Tischler, it serves him right!
Why is David Greenfield using mafia bully tactics to push a 18yr old kid of the ballot. David be a man if you can.
If a kid wants to play house, that’s fine… in his own house. But PLEASE, don’t do it in a communal house.
I don’t think I would vote for him in the election, but I most certainly would vote to get him on the ballet. I support an 18 year old with such ambition, especially when so many teens are not doing “the right thing” nowadays. Kol Hokovod and good luck
this kid is one kool dude good for him hes goin places
Cheapo. Only wants to spend $1000 and win a city council seat. Has he lost his marbles?!
keep it up!!! Dont be intimidated. You have my vote.
Mr Tischler should be investigated for abusing his son. Forcing an 18 year old to run for city council us abuse. Besides, in the slight chance he were to win, the real councilman will be his father who is pulling the puppet strings.
Being 18 is no excuse for not familiarizing himself with the issues. Needless to say, he didn’t leave anyone too impressed by his performance at the debate.
If he’s only spending $1000 on the campaign, can I rent his ‘Boro Park campaign office’ from the picture after the election?
Dear Mr. Tischler:
I am not a resident of Brooklyn, however I admire your initiative. If more people like yourself were involved in the running of government our country would be a better place. Please tell where I can send a donation to your campaign fund. Despite your age I think you will bring a great deal vision to the council.
Why not vote for an 18year old. by Torah standards he is old enough to marry your daughters. Do you think he will make poor judgements on how to spend your tax dollars or possibly come with a different set of eyes to the table. Maybe he will bring the A-K’s who have been dealing our rights away, a new perspective.
I say VOTE and VOTE for Tishler. We have had wise Kings in Klal Yisroel and this young man just may be the future we need.
Good Luck…
nice to see an outsider pushing back, this guy just might have what it takes, and if not now again in the near future he will be a good candidate for local office (to start with)
to # 7, the people lost their mind as they give candidates 6 to 1 on the money they raise, how sick is that for our tax dollars being well spent by the political establishment…..
I just found out that tishler is in my college writing class in touro…. Cool u got my vote!
he will most likely be a lot better to the concerns of most people instead of the political establishment catering to special interest, the fact are the dov and others like him of the local political machine are getting partial funding only for all the mostly new organizations servicing “special” causes and not for the majority of us…and to add most of these so called “chesed” services should be just that and not receive any of my tax dollars….oh and by the way check out who is making the money at these service/chesed organization it might be all “related”
JUst realize that when you vote Tischler you vote for Harold Tischler the boys father. He is pulling the strings.
This story reminds me the story of Purim, just like Haman wanted to kill Jews, but it turned out opposite, so the same with this guy, just like somebody wanted to through him out of the race, that somebody will be defeated. We are still in Adar!
when is the last time that experience helped us in politics? Go Tischler. Thanks for all the geniuses who voted in our current administration!jk, real good job there
Running for public office is a great thing to add to your resume. & who knows some of us people of BP will be very happy if he takes away votes from the gingy (aka: David Greenfield) running for this position!
I vote Tishler just for the reason that Greenfeld wants him out which is for no other reason then being a bully
David, dont worry, we are all behind you! you’ll win and with g-ds help win big. Mr. Tischler, no one is trying to do something ilegal. To board of elections has taken you off the ballot, NOT GRENFIELD. Play by the rules, nobody will bother you. I know you’re only 18, but once you’ll grow up, perhapps you will understand.
Mr. Kuo please answer the question.
Did Greenfield file a lawsuit against another Jew in a secular court? YES
Did Lazar file a lawsuit against another Jew in a secular court? NO
The facts are the facts.
Do say Lazar would have, might have … That is a lie. I see why you get along with David so well. You are right, we in Boro Park are far from dumb.
Why are Lazar and Greenfield so afraid of an 18 year old kid? They should be watching out for the Republican in the race that young man named Judge who did so well in the debate. Leave Tischer alone!
zissy solomon’s real name is david grennfeld. haha lol
Even the presidential campaign has not had this much slamming
shame on you Greenfield!
Go Tischler Go!!
Do not be intimidated by Greenfield. He cannot win on his merits. Greenfield’s only chance of winning is by eliminating the competition. The same way President Obama did when he fist ran for State Senate in Illinois.
I see the greenfeld team again came to vin news to bash a eighteen year old for his sin of wanting to run for public office
Don’t know if I will vote for tishler I think my vote goes to lazar or judge but its sure bad publicity for greenfeild using his boss vito lopez tactics
Young Tischler has learned that you don’t give your opponent opportunities to move against you. Presenting an inadequate number of qualified signatures did just that, and no serious player would let you get away with it, youthful innocence or not. From now on, meet the requirements, be smart and energetic, relate to people and you’ll do ok.
Rabosai, this is all politics. Junior Tischler should have followed the rules. That’s why 18 years old kid don’t usually run for office, because they have no idea of what they doing. Also, senior Tischler should run himself not force his son. I saw the debate on VIN – Joe Lazar could not stop laughing at Tischler. Everybody was laughing at him. The election board did him a favor by throwing him off the ballot.
he belongs in Yeshiva
Why doesn’t he run for Governor? We are in a big mess in Albany.
Greenfield is running a very ugly campaign. BP is now getting a look at what we will be in for should he win.
Everyone has a right to run and we have a right to choose, age does not matter at all, and bullying someone off the ballot just tells me “stay away from the bully” and I will not vote for the bully
greenfield is afraid of this kid. i wonder why??!
Sorry greenfield, you have to EARN your seat and you wont EARN it by bullying 18 year olds who did the same thing to get on the ballot that you did. The only diff between him and you is that he doesnt have your bog mouthpiece!
brilliant – because this kid got bullied, people on this site now want to vote for him. are you ppl crazy? this is the problem with politics across the board… ppl who know nothing vote based on some emotional feeling rather than any knowledge of the facts. anyone here know what city councils job description is?
I cant believe how mature citizens let their supposedly common sense be fogged by emotions, how can you be soooo silly and vote for a young kid because you feel bad for him, or you are angry with Greenfeld, after it is all said & done you may be represented by a kid who is going to be gobbled up in city hall, who is going to keep asking “tatty what do I do now ?” you are voting for NON representation, you might as well not vote.
This is all one big chilul hashem not worth any of the money either one of these guys are promising Hashem Yishmor!!!!
I’ve actually worked as a petitioner in the same district in borough park, and speaking out of experience, I believe that this “teen” is more dedicated than half the dimwits running. Many of you fail to see the underlying message: Politics is and has always been corruptible, and this is largely due to the fact that most politicians dont give a hoot about their community. Rather, they engage in politics for profitable business reasons. A youthful mind such as Avraham might lack the experience to deal with some of the complex issues that councilmen do, but at least he wouldn’t be pressured by lobbyist and campaign donors, actually giving him the opportunity to make changes that are needed. And at least appreciate the humor in it- The “teen” never intended on winning, he just wanted to say that politics have been so unstable, that we might as well let a youth make the decisions. and BTW Pres. Obama is the 5th youngest president to be elected, yet nobody seemed to mind.
Greenfeld did not even want the 330 dollar tax credit to pass we have spoken to many who did the vote & they said greenfeld is a liar but after it passed he took credit.
I am voting for TISCHLER good luck
i am voting for j. lazar. he is a kind experienced person. this is what we need it the city council.
David is also a very young kid, he thinks of himself as most smartest, but as the campaign goes ahead his stupid mind gets known.
I’m going for Tishler because i think he is bright and will do us just fine!!!!!!
I think tischler is running to have something good to put on his lawschool resume.
Tishler willl be a great lawer if he decides to become one…. he knows how to debate like good lawer saw him at the debate
Soon we’ll be reading about Reb Elazar in the Haggadah who was young and yet chosen to be a leader…”ani kben shivim” and we know the medrash that his beard turned white so people respect him. He was 17 years old!
Mr. Tishler does not have to prove himself.
Kol Hakavod that he is afraid of Hashem and not human threats.
Maybe if he gets on the ballot, the other candidate who withdrew should reconsider.
He is a Talmid Chochom , a lawyer, has money and is ready to serve the community.
Right now i say go Tishler go!
Our family will vote for you as long as you stay away from talking about other candidates…no Loshon Hora!!
