His YouTube page, in which he lists both The Communist Manifesto and Mein Kampf among his favorite books, is still operational. Incidentally, Congresswoman Giffords is Jewish.

All the info on the page is listed in the past tense.

Loughner posted several confusing videos on his page, some of which deal with a “Mind Controller” and references to residents of Arizona Congressional District 8, Gifford’s district, as “illiterate”.

She is not halachically Jewish. It goes without saying that this remains a tragedy. But her mother is not Jewish.

I agree with #2 . #1 ’s statement (even if true), is extremely insensitive at this time, when the Congresswoman is battling for her life. How does the statement of #1 , look to gentiles (who read this site) and to the family of the Congresswoman? Please, have a little rachmonos, at this very tragic time!!

Point is. While this is tragic, the left rushes to blame the right like Palin. Fascism was socialist.. a far cry from the tea party

#1 is commenting on the headline and the article which state that she’s jewish, and merely points out that halachicly that’s not so. If u have an issue with the mention of her religion u should have it out with VIN and don’t blow your anger on #1 .

This is not the time to be having this argument. We should be praying for her recovery. She was a good person who was friendly to the Jewish people and to Israel. I will say extra tehillim for her using her English name.

Only once before has a US Congressman ever been assassinated: Congressman Leo Ryan, in Guyana while investigating the Jonestown cult. May this not be the second event and may Congresswoman Giffords recover fully.

Every group is spinning this tragedy to serve their own agendas. The liberals are pointing fingers against tea parties and guns, the right-wingers think he is an atheist, communist because he rambled against the bible and read the communist manifesto. And now we have a new group using her Jewish roots to stir some noise as well. The Congresswoman didn’t parade herself as a Jew on the resume. Most people did not look at her as a Jew but as a Blue Dog Democrat and that’s all. Who cares about her religious affiliations? The suspect lists Fahrenheit 451, Animal Farm, and many other political classics in his list of favorite books but so what?

There is no evidence at this point that he is something other than a psycho. His ramblings against the government are odd and do not make any sense from political ideologies. Stop with all the speculation that he targeted a Jewish congresswoman because he read Mein Kampf.

News reports are coming in that this may be an inaccurate story. This MySpace page may be old or may have been put up by someone else. There are videos which show him demanding that US currency be tied to gold and videos which have a capitalist feel to them. It would seem strange that the books of Communists would be the favorites of someone interested in the free-market economy.

I think we need to wait for all the facts to come out first. Apparently there was a lot of misinformation today, including reports from all major news networks that the Congresswoman was confirmed dead. Right now, I think everyone needs to let the police do their job and determine what is true and what is not true.

#1 is simply reporting what he/she believes to be a fact. Making someone with jewish interests a target of white supremacists does not make them Jewish. Our hearts go out to all the people involved in the tragedy.

Congresswoman Giffords was described as Jewish and all I need to know is if she considered herself Jewish. There are many Jews who consider themselves Jewish who aren’t halachily Jewish, who can become so if not written off as “gentile”.
The main thing is that a tragedy has happened and 6 people are dead.I pray for all of them and there families and hope all of you do the same.

enlightened-yid Says: …” The Congresswoman didn’t parade herself as a Jew on the resume.”

Giffords once began an op-ed piece for the Arizona Jewish Post with a proud recital of her family roots, explaining that she is the grandchild of Akiba Hornstein, who was “the son of a Lithuanian rabbi.” Her grandfather changed his name, she said, as did so many others who came to United States, to Giff Giffords “for reasons of anti-Semitism.” More than 50 years later, “like my grandmother, I am a lifetime member of Hadassah and now a member of Congregation Chaverim,” she wrote.

Maybe everyone needs to sit down, shut up, and pray for Ms. Giffords and the other 20 victims without worrying who was at her bris.
