Brooklyn, NY – Assemblyman Dov Hikind’s (D-Brooklyn) efforts to oust Professor Petersen-Overton from his teaching appointment have proven successful. Hikind had contacted both [reported earlier today by VIN News] Brooklyn College President Dr. Karen L. Gould, as well as CUNY Chancellor Matthew Goldstein, to decry the recent appointment of Adjunct Professor Kristofer J. Petersen-Overton who was hired to teach a Politics of the Middle East graduate course this spring at the College.

Several concerned Brooklyn College political science graduate students contacted the Assemblyman who, in turn, wrote to Dr. Gould after reviewing the grossly biased course syllabus and researching Petersen-Overton’s professional background and published works.
Mr. Petersen-Overton has authored a number of anti-Israel papers, including one entitled, Inventing the Martyr: Martyrdom as Palestinian National Signifier, which endeavors to justify Palestinian suicide bombings as a means of “struggle and sacrifice” against “Israeli occupation.”
“I am absolutely thrilled that Brooklyn College made the right decision and removed Professor Petersen-Overton from his post,” Hikind said. “This was a matter of preserving academic integrity, and in this instance, Brooklyn College did so. Students can now be assured of receiving a fair and balanced education in the subject of Middle East politics.”
Yasher Koach! Let these anti-Israel professor types know thry are not welcome in NY.
Well done, Dov. Keep up the good work.
Excellent news on an otherwise nasty weather day.
This is the best thing that could have happened to this oisvorf. Instead of being let go because he’s a lousy teacher, attention has been called to his radical ideologies. He is now a martyr. Now Columbia, NYU, Harvard, Yale, Princeton etc. will be knocking down his doors trying to get him to teach at their “prestigious/ progressive/ open minded” institutions.
Thank you Assemblyman Hikind for the great job and all the great work you do for me and Klal Yisroel!!! Mitzvah man you are!
What will you do when they boycott pro Jewish professors? This is a dangerous precedent
You have always stuck up for the right causes and for the little guy. Keep up the good work. Fortunately this yo yo is dumb enough to have actually published his anti semetic dribble. How many of these professors have the same radical opinions but as a business matter don’t publish. If you wouldn’t have gotten rid of him, before long he gets tenure and he is in for life as a prof.
Dov…fantastic….now get started to remove those hazardus byke lanes.
Now, if only Dov Hikind could only do something about Patrick Buchanan, an anti-semite (seen on MSNBC, and in print), for many years. Buchanan almost plotzed when he realized that three Jews would be on the U.S. Supreme Court. He protested that “one third of the Supreme Court would be Jewish”.
Taking away the right of freedom of speech from one person makes everyone vulnerable. What was gained by this action? My answer to this question would not be printed here.
I didn’t think his letter was going to do any good – look at that
The best thing for him,and as an inspiration to his students, and the palestinians, is to become a Shahid himself.
He would do everyone a big favor, and go out with a blast.
It would give his life (less) life some meaning,
and he would definitely help in the “struggle”
shem reshaim yirkov.
In order to have freedom of speech under the Constitution I guess you need first to get approval from Dov Hikind. I hope the case goes to the Supreme Court.
This doesn’t mean the problem is solved. He will still have his followers and audience. What’s going on in academia today is just plain irrational antisemitism that’s been around for thousands of years. No matter how many professors are fired, how many marches people go on, or how many ads in the NY Times, it will never change. Jews don’t belong in NY pretending that the firing of the professor will make a difference. They belong in Israel where they can make a difference and change the world.
