Brooklyn, NY – Councilman Steve Levin Robbed Twice in One Day

Brooklyn, NY – A New York City councilman for the affluent section of Brooklyn Heights and nearby neighborhoods had a very unlucky weekend when he was the victim of robbery twice in one day.

One of the nearly simultaneous crimes took place at the Democrat’s district office on Atlantic Avenue near downtown Brooklyn, where a robber was caught red-handed by the police.

The other robbery happened approximately four miles away in the north Brooklyn neighborhood of Greenpoint, where a thief stole his car from outside his apartment.

‘I’m hoping I’ve reached my quota for burglaries and thefts for the year,’ Levin, who has represented Brooklyn’s 33rd district since 2009, said yesterday.

According to the New York Police Department the councilman’s office was broken into on Sunday at around 4:25 am when by Louis Adule, 22, who gave an address in Hampton, Georgia.

Law enforcement said that Adule was attempting to steal a flat screen TV and computer monitor from the Boerum Hill office. It was alleged that Adule used a potted plant to smash one of Levin’s office’s windows

A neighbour, Jerry Haggerty, heard suspicious noise and notified the NYPD, who were surprised to find Adule still inside the office when they arrived.

‘They saw the guy inside and said, ‘Holy s- – -! He’s in there!”’ Haggerty recalled.

Levin was immediately notified about the incident and left his Greenpoint apartment to head down to his office – but when he got to where he’d parked his 2000 Honda Civic, it was gone.

Levin, who spent his Sunday morning filling out police paperwork, doesn’t believe that he is the victim of any sort of coordinated attack – he just feels unlucky.

‘Everybody is under the impression that it is coincidental,’ he said. ‘My car doesn’t have special plates. It happened in different police precincts.’

But that’s little solace for the unfortunate councilman that’s now without his wheels. Levin says that he has only one message to the thief: bring it back.

‘Please return my car. I’m really fond of that car. It’s a good car,’ he said.

The NYPD have said that they believe that the car was stolen between 2 am and 5:40 am on Sunday.
