The officials didn’t elaborate but are warning all Israelis abroad to take precautions. They spoke on condition of anonymity in line with government regulations.

Tens of thousands of Israelis are currently travelling abroad during the weeklong Jewish holiday of Passover.

Israel and the Lebanese militant group have been bitter enemies for two decades.

Argentina has accused Hezbollah and Iran of killing 85 people on its soil in a 1994 attack on a Jewish centre.

The officials said Friday the Iran-backed Hezbollah is seeking revenge for the slaying of a top figure in Damascus in 2008. Israel was assumed to have been behind it.
