Brooklyn, NY – A pro-family Orthodox Jewish rabbi is concerned that a potential Republican vice-presidential candidate has appointed an open homosexual to his state’s supreme court.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) has announced he will nominate Bruce Harris to one of the two openings on the state’s high court. But he has also told legislators that he would veto a proposed Senate bill legalizing same-sex “marriage” in the state. He is encouraging those who support such unions to let the New Jersey voters decide.
“Let’s put the question of same-sex marriage on the ballot this fall in the hands of the people, the time when the most people will be voting — the presidential election year,” he urged.
But New York City Rabbi Yehuda Levin says something is wrong with Christie appointing the homosexual judge, then calling for the people to decide the issue.
“You’re either with us or against us; you can’t be halfway,” he contends. “And Christie is not a strong social conservative. He’s a social moderate, and this is unacceptable.”
Levin is also concerned that Christie, who is a supporter of presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, has already been mentioned as a possible running mate for the former Massachusetts governor.
“This is Romney’s friend. He’s doing just like Romney — everything short of homosexual ‘marriage,'” the rabbi notes. “Romney has to be defeated at any cost, or we know what kind of Supreme Court nominees he will appoint and how that will impact on our country for decades to come.”
Levin believes a Romney-Christie ticket would be focused on the economy, but he says no amount of financial tinkering can save a country that is morally bankrupt.
The Judge’s personal life should not mean he is not qualified to sit on the Supreme Court. While I completely disagree with the gay lifestyle, I respect gay people as much or as little as I do any other segment of society: I base my opinions on their character.
Rabbi Levin is in some ways a bigot. Look at legislation, yes, but don’t assume a Judge who has sworn to uphold the law will automatically allow his personal feelings to affect his judicial rulings. Give the guy a chance. Some respect by Rabbi Levin will earn him more credibility than his (l’havdil) Westlake-type bigotry. Actually, now I come to think of it, Rabbi Levin is showing rather more affinity to those evil lunatics
Westlake than I would expect to see from a Rabbi, even one as right-wing as Rabbi Levin. Shame on him.
I respect this Rabbi because he remains at his core believes regardless of public opinion. Where else do you see that?

The liberal media gives Levin a platform because he comes across as a nut.
At least someone is speaking out for my religious interests- thank you Rabbi- many these days whether so called rabbis or leaders or politicians are seeking to appease westernized culture and follow the liberal mindset and are scared to stand up for truth- refreshing, and for many-very welcoming.

Levin assesses the world in terms of only one single variable – homosexuality. He appeals to the media because of this nutty way of thinking and his ability to articulate it. Other than that, he’s chiefly ignored by all. He is a nice guy, but it is difficult to maintain a conversation with him, as he diverts any discussion to his single preoccupation. There has got to be something else in this world besides his pet issue.
He has lost a lot of weight. How’d he do it?

Has Levin really got smicha and from where? Yes he does have a shul, but that certainly does not confer ordination.
At a time when Jewish religious bigotry – spitting, stoning, burning trash cans, wearing Holocaust memorabilia and simulating scenes from the holocaust (total insensitivity to the murdered and the survivors), hobnobbing with Ahmadinejad, placing flowers at Arafat’s memorial — is making worldwide news THIS IS NOT A TIME, certainly not for a self-appointed individual to become a spokesman for the religious community.
If he truly has the issues of homosexuality and abortion at heart, let him go to gedolei Torah and put his case before them and encourage them to speak out.

Rabbi Levin, the next time a Jew is put forward as a judge I hope you’ll keep the sensitivities and values of neo-Nazis and Klansmen in mind and demand a Juden-rein judiciary.
Did anybody stop to ask what his qualifications are? Stop for a moment and forget his PERSONAL life!! Everybody has a personal life!! Some people in Washington have personal lives that we SHOULD KNOW about but we do NOT!! This man was honest and told the truth!! UP FRONT!! That should say something about him!!
