The 42-year-old man, who was identified only as Bashar N., has been wanted by Iraqi authorities since 2006, Austrian media reported.

Austrian tabloid newspaper Kronen Zeitung said he was wanted on terrorism charges.

He was detained Thursday during a routine police control near Vienna because he did not have a passport.

The man was identified through his fingerprints, an interior ministry spokesman was quoted as saying by Austrian Press Agency APA.
