Putin arrived in Jerusalem’s Old City at 1:30 am Tuesday, and made his third visit to the Western Wall, a yarmulke on his head, commenting on the deep Jewish connection to the holy site: “You can see how the Jewish past is engraved in the stones of Jerusalem.”

During the course of his visit, Putin spoke with other visitors at the site, asked many questions, and according to Yedioth Ahronoth, chatted at length with an ultra-Orthodox immigrant from the former Soviet Union.

The Russian president also received a book in Russian about the Western Wall tunnels, and asked to visit the tunnels himself.

    1. He called on Israel to “tear down that wall!” Then he realized…

Seriously, though, it was good of him to say, “You can see how the Jewish past is engraved in the stones of Jerusalem.” That’s a pretty provocative (in a good way) statement, if you think about it.

    2. Beware of Putin. The photo opps with Jews keeps the Jews quiet as he pursues policies inimical to Israel and the U.S. This man presided over the slaughter of 100,000 Chechens in the mid 90’s.

      • Let’s not cry too hard for the (Ethnic) Chechens. They are a brutal bunch, who didn’t hesitate for a moment to murder the young Russian boys without provocation, other than they stepped in their territory. I remember reading many years ago of how brutal the Russians were when they filled a cave in Afghanistan with some “Poor, innocent” Taliban, pumped gas into it and blew it up with all the Taliban members inside. Today, we know how “Compassionate” the Taliban and Al-Qaida are.

      • There was a similarly awkward situation once, where (Legendary) Mayor LaGuardia had a meeting with all of the (Non religious) Jewish leaders in New York. Always practicing Political Correctness (Before it was in style.), Mayor LaGuardia donned a Yarmulka. Turns out that he was the only one at that meeting wearing a yarmulka. To ease the feeling of embarrassment, he joked to the Jewish representatives. “It looks like I’m the Only Jewish person in this room”…

    3. The culprit at a clambake!!!!!
(this means that the man who is going to the western wall is a man who is notorious for his aggression against freedom and liberty in his own nation. Do not fret, I am not comparing the western wall to a clambake. The idea of a clam bake is an ugly selfish event and thus if a Guy like Putin goes to the Western Wall. (we would expect him to do so of course), it just shows that he is a man who really likes the photo op which is essentially what you get out of this. You didn’t think he found Hashem did you?)

    4. “The heart of the King is in the Hand of HaShem” and the head of Esav is buried in the Maarat HaMachpelah. We reach out and tell about our covenant with HaShem and our mesiras nefesh for it. P’nimious talks to p’nimious and whoever will listen, will listen. In Moshaich’s time (today), Esav will return and use his sword to protect his brother Yaakov/Yisroel.
