The bill passed the Democratic-led Assembly on Tuesday afternoon, a day after sweeping through the Republican-majority Senate.

The bill expands the state’s ban on assault weapons, puts limits on ammunition capacity and has new measures to keep guns out of the hands of mentally ill people.

Cuomo pressed for passage of the bill after a gunman killed 20 students and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, just over one month ago.

The measure also mandates a life sentence without parole for anyone who murders a first responder. Just two weeks after the massacre in Connecticut, an arsonist gunman ambushed and killed two firefighters responding to a fire he had set near Rochester.

The crooks and evil doers will still find ways around the law. Law biding people usually dont go about shooting up others

Nice work! Once in a while, even the NYS legislative branch gets something done in the interest of the regular folks.

This is nothing but an attempt by Andy to fool people into thinking he has done something good in anticipation of his 2016 Presidential run. Wasted legislation..the criminal element doesn’t follow the law.

Not enough attention is being given to regulating the violence allowed in the gaming industry. Shooting, murdering, rampant violence virtually ‘played’ for hours each day, years on end obviously numbs a person to these types of behaviors. Anyone remember the song, “you get a little extra when you watch TV…”?

New York has become a national leader in progressive social issues such as gun-control, health care availability and same-gender legal rights. Halevei, more of the states would follow our leadership.

A sad day for ALL law abiding citizens in NY. It might “only” be guns today. But what will they take from all tomorrow? Liberty and freedom is lost one law at a time. This is a political agenda bill and NOT a lifesaving one. It will prevent no crime and will turn many law abiding gun owners into criminals. The only life that will be saved by this is the political life of an aspiring presidential candidate by the name of Cuomo.

Connecticut was said to have the strictest or among the strictest gun laws in the country and look what happened. Too bad libs don’t understand that criminals DON’T follow the law no matter what the law is.

They also don’t get that there are evil people in the world.

Just to give you an idea how redundant and illogical this bill is- it states that legal gun owners must reregister their guns AND discard or have modified any magazine clip that holds more then 7 rounds. They don’t MAKE a 7 bullet magazine, it’s 5, 10 or more. By the way “Andy” both killers didn’t use their own guns and both killed themselves before they could be arrested. How about you worry about all the people falling on the train tracks???
