Washington – Senator Rand Paul Says He Is Not Anti-Israel; Favors Iron Dome System

FILE - US Republican Representative from Kentucky, Rand Paul.Washington – Republican Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky seems to have had a change of heart about Israel after spending a week in the Jewish State and meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu and top-level Israeli leaders, according to a report in the Business Insider (http://read.bi/13IfEBP).

When asked by VIN News representative Ezra Friedlander about his position on the Iron Dome during a Q & A session with reporters, Paul said he supports Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system, and believes the United States should put a similar system in place in the nation’s major cities.

“Absolutely I’m in favor of it,” Paul said. “There’s no reason our White House, our Capitol, and our major cities shouldn’t have a missile defense. I saw presentations on the Iron Dome and it was very impressive.”

Paul’s supportive comments came as a surprise to many since he has long been viewed as being anti-Israel for opposing foreign aid to Israel. But Paul said his trip to the Middle East was in large part to dispel that notion. “Part of the reason I am here is to show that I am not anti-Israel,” he said. “There is this perception out there that because I’m in favor of cutting foreign aid I am not a friend to Israel. . .But there is more than one way to be a friend to Israel.”

In fact, Paul said, he shares the same views as those who are hawkish about Israel’s future and does not believe the United States should be dictating to Israel about their settlements. “If somebody asked me where to build in Israel, I would say it’s none of my business,” Paul said. “What I think is wrong is for American politicians to come to Jerusalem and say, ‘You shouldn’t be building in this neighborhood’. . .or for American politicians to come over and tell you that you need to give the Golan Heights back.”

Still, Paul said, he believes Israel will always be beholden to the United States so long as it is receiving American foreign aid. “I don’t think Israel should be dictated to,” he said. But I also think that if Israel were less dependent on our aid, it would be less beholden. I don’t think Israel needs to come on bended knee to ask if she can defend herself.”

While Paul did not call for eliminating foreign aid to Israel, he did say that the United States should first end funding to nations which “burn the American Flag” such as Egypt and the Palestinians. “The biggest threat to our nation right now is our debt,” he said. “This does mean that we have to reassess who to give aid to, and when we do reassess that, I would begin with countries that are burning our flag and chanting ‘Death to America.’ No one is accusing Israel of that.”

    1. “Paul’s supportive comments came as a surprise to many since he has long been viewed as being anti-Israel for opposing foreign aid to Israel.”

Did he learn his flip flopping skills from Mitt Romney? Rand is nothing more than another phony who is trying to suck up to the Jewish vote for a possible Presidential run. But, this flip flopping is nothing new to Paul. We all remember his statement to kowtow to the Baggers (KKK) that a limited government should not force private businesses to abide by civil rights law. But, right on cue, he backtracked by saying, “Let me be clear: I support the Civil Rights Act because I overwhelmingly agree with the intent of the legislation, which was to stop discrimination in the public sphere and halt the abhorrent practice of segregation and Jim Crow laws.” He’s perfect for the GOP!

        • “Go seek help ASAP!”

Did I upset you, Clem? Well, you know what? Too bad! Whether you like it or not, uninformed vermin such as yourself will always align with those who are on the wrong side of history. You couldn’t recognize the truth if it walked up to you and bit you! You are heretofore, denied my person, Clem!

      • First of all, the Democrats were the ones who were very against Civil Rights for Blacks and heavily for segregation and before that slavery.
Secondly, what Paul was saying with regards to employers was that an employer should have the right to hire whomever they deem is the best for the job, not by some predetermined number of how many blacks they must hire. He was advocating for treating Blacks the way everyone else is treated. That is the opposite of Racism. The Racists (Democrats) are the ones who want to treat Blacks differently because they think they can’t earn things on their own or are too “dumb” to get anywhere in life without the government’s help.
Finally, what proof do you have that the Tea Party is racist or KKK? Zero.
FYI, historically, the KKK was aligned with the Democrats, they even forced people to vote Democratic.

        • “First of all, the Democrats were the ones who were very against Civil Rights for Blacks and heavily for segregation and before that slavery.”

So, you’re comparing the Democratic Party of of the 50’s- 60’s, and the Democratic Party of the 19th century with today’s Democrats. Typical Michael Savage! Oh, and if Rand Paul needs you to explain his positions on race, he’s in more trouble politically than anyone ever thought! Spare me your GOP/Baggers (KKK) talking points, please! Our exchange is at an end!

          • Tsk, tsk. My are we offended by a little information. The KKK was active well into the 20th century. It was southern Democrats who resisted the Equal Rights Amendment. Second, calling the Tea Party racist is just repeating a line. Wanting smaller, more responsible government is not racist. If a specific population is disproportionately adversely affected, it is still not racist. Can’t there be a meaningful exchange of ideas without name calling?

            • “Wanting smaller, more responsible government is not racist.”

No, that’s not racist, but, when the GOP/Baggers (KKK) have that annoying Palin woman ‘shuckin and jivin,’ that politically disgraced Sunnunu calling the President lazy and un-American, Trump’s absurd claims that the President was born in Kenya, that serial adulterer and disgraced Speaker of the House Gingrich referring to Obama as the ‘Food Stamp President,’ Santorum’s claim that “I don’t want to make black people’s lives better by giving them somebody else’s money,” Rick Perry’s nostalgic memories of his family’s ranch “Niggerhead,” Crazy Michele Bachmann suggesting that “The black family was stronger during slavery than in freedom,” voting suppression of minorities, etc., etc., that is racist! And, if your Baggers want smaller government and less spending, where were they when G.W. Bush was President, who literally bankrupted the country? Oh, I forgot. He was white! It’s not just me saying this. Go ask General Powell!
Other than hating minorities, the one common denominator all racists have is that they’re too cowardly to admit to what they are!

          • All thoose old “Southern Democrat segregationists changed their party registration to Republican during the 1970’s and 80’s. How do you think they suddenly became the dominant political party in the area. Stop kidding yourselves.

            • “All thoose old “Southern Democrat segregationists changed their party registration to Republican during the 1970’s and 80’s.”

Absolutely! As a matter of fact, after the signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, LBJ said to Bill Moyers, his speech writer at the time, “Well, there goes the Democratic South!”
