New York, NY – Rep. Carolyn Maloney wants a Manhattan street corner and subway station to be renamed in Mayor Ed Koch’s honor.
Maloney will announce the renaming of the corner at East 77th Street and Lexington Avenue at a news conference Monday. It will be called “Mayor Edward I. Koch” street.
The congresswoman also will recommend to the MTA that the subway station at that corner be renamed “Mayor Ed Koch subway station.”
Koch called it his favorite stop on the subway, where he often campaigned.
Officials have introduced legislation in the City Council to rename the subway station.
Koch died Friday of congestive heart failure at age 88. His funeral is Monday.
