The New York Post (http://bit.ly/UVnvsj) is reporting that at a press conference addressing the usage of a ‘message of necessity’ by Governor Cuomo to pass the controversial bill, Republican Assemblyman, Stephen McLaughlin, who represents areas just outside Albany, said Hitler, Mussolini, and Moscow would be ‘proud’ of the way Gov. Cuomo pushed the bill through.

“We’re told basically to shut up and vote,” said McLaughlin, “Hitler would be proud, Mussolini would be proud of what we did here, Moscow would be proud. That’s not democracy.”

Asked a short time later if he believed equating the governor to dictators was a ppropriate, McLaughlin said, “I’m not calling the governor a dictator; I’m saying this was a dictatorial thing to do.”

McLaughlin’s comments drew an immediate response from Speaker Silver’s office, calling McLaughlin’s comments ‘highly offensive’ and ‘beneath a member of the state legislature.’

Later in the day McLaughlin apologized via a video message, stating that “I made an analogy that I should not have made, and I’m very, very sorry about that.”

I don’t think its Aguda Israel role to mix in on the Gun debate, Especially that a lot of the Pro gun crowd are big supporters of Vochers etc.

It is shamefull that Shelly Silver pushed through gay marriage and now he is pushing through gun control – Mr. McLaughlin is correct. The first thing Hitler did was take away guns.

What’s with so many politicos? They’re always retracting what they say..not proud of what they say — they talk without thinking. These are leaders? (w,hether from the ‘right’ or ‘left.’)

Don’t ever allow guns to be taken away from responsible people it keeps the government under pressure not to get away with stuff it has in mind to do השם ירחם

No 2and 4. Hashem yerachem on both of you. The use of Hashem is a chilul hashem and displays blatant ignorance. In 1938 the first thing Hitler did in Vienna carried by the SA and SS did beat up Jews and deport them to Dachau. I hope the government will be able to control gun nuts and all deviates like you two.

Charlie, Did Weimar ban guns on its own or was the ban imposed by the Treaty of Versailles? Anyway, the ban was not very effective. Every street gang, left and right, was armed to the teeth.
