Jerusalem – A registered New York sex offender recently deported after serving 11 months in a US prison has been arrested in Jerusalem after the mother of an 11 year-old girl filed a complaint that he sexually molested her daughter.

The Times of Israel (http://bit.ly/YHFmCL) is reporting that 48 year-old Simon Benisty, a resident of Jerusalem, was remanded for six days after his arrest on Thursday.
Channel 10 is reporting that during the course of the investigation Benisty confessed to the molestation of 10 additional minors.
Benisty was deported in 2010 after serving an 11 month prison sentence in the US on similar charges against two girls, 8 and 10.
Police have hinted that ultra-Orthodox leaders in Benisty’s community may have prescribed him medications aimed at curbing his desires, rather than turn him in to secular authorities.
Lead investigator, inspector David Katz, told Channel 10, “The suspect used to exploit situations where there was no supervision of adults to commit various sexual offenses against minors.”

One of the many benefits of Weberman’s trial is that the curtain that shields and protects molesters has been ripped away. Maybe now we can start taking care of our precious children!

am i reading this right, they are prescribing him medications to curb his desires? unless that means they are castrating him, i think it sounds insane to think that all will be better because of a couple of pills….

No one is ultra Orthodox, you’re either observant or not yet observant if your Jewish. Let’s leave orthodox to those who are conventional and subsist on less imagination than a tse tse fly. Prescribing medications requires, even in Eretz Yisroel, a license to prescribe and a license to practice medicine. I’m not going to defile this forum with my personal disgust.

The word molestor is no longer a dirty word. It is a dirty person. We are allowed to talk about it. If someone is identified as a molestor, the authorities, whether here or in Israel, should deal with it. Lay men and women, as well as untrained Rabbis, are simply not qualified nor prepared to deal with the issue. The days of the cover-ups are over. We must give these situations over to proper authorities. That is Halacha and simple common sense. Saving our children overrides hesitations of non-applicable mesirah.

B. ” mandatory -weekly group therapy program” for pedophiles ( it works for MANY not all ) there is one in flatbush that is quite successful ( this should be a first stop BEFORE JAIL – ( MEDS CAN HELP ALTHOUGH NOT A CURE)
C. A BEIS DIN that will access NEW & CURRENT ACCUSATIONS -not old stories.
the current frenzy is not doing much to help the cause- its costing the families millions in lawyers/ encouraging ppl NOT TO come forward – they see the hell u go thru & crazy sentences/ costing tax dollars 47000$ a year in jail/ not rehabilitative / chances are webs kids, yegutkin kids , maleks kids thats 20 more kids from a now broken home going to shul w/o a father & getting molested or messed up
what help is really out there for people who were abused & want to have healthy relationships , families etc…can anyone post some good people that are trained & avail. ( i work hard for a living & can pay approx 100$ a week for a session.

How many people do you know, who look nearly identical to that photo, who come in daily contact with your children, regularly and are trusted as being so innocent looking and so frum looking and so chassidish looking.
Looks can be very deceiving.
The sweetest looking people are not always, what they seem to look like and those who look like the biggest Tzadikim are actually very often the opposite.
Most Molestation is done by those whom we all trust, the most, and is relatively rarely done by total strangers and not by the unfamiliar looking.

If this animal would have been sentenced for longer then 11 months, say 103 years, he wouldn’t have been able to offend again and hurt another child.
I’m sick and tired of everyone crying about sentences. Here is a prime example – he got a deal, went to jail, got deported, and learned nothing.
Long sentences = saving our precious children.

A convicted pedophile was deported back to Israel so the rabbi’s in the area where was leaving in Israel should have know something. He then is caught by the rabbis doing the same thing so they prescribe him medication so he should not do it again. Finally a mother calls the cops and the person admits to 10 other victims all in a period of 2 years.

How many other victims are there in the last 2 years? (it’s more)
Who are these rabbis?
Should we even think a Rabbi know what he is talking about in these case to handle the situation?
How many other pedophiles are these rabbis not telling us about? since they believe their methods are working?

Punishment, particularly physical, must be approved by Torah, or by Torah-sgaes the like of which we no longer have. Castration is definitely prohibited by Torah Law. Using it as a punishment or even deterrent will achieve nothing, however much the emotions might demand it. Practically, it will not solve all aspects of the crime anyway, so why waste time discussing it?
