White House spokesman Jay Carney was responding to the North’s vow to launch a pre-emptive nuclear strike against the U.S. That threat came in retaliation for tough new U.N. sanctions against Pyongyang for its recent nuclear test.

Carney says the sanctions further isolate North Korea and show its leaders what will happen if they defy the international community. He says the breadth and severity of the sanctions show the world takes seriously the threat of North Korea’s nuclear program.

North Korea boasts of nuclear bombs but isn’t thought to have the ability to produce a warhead that could be used on a missile capable of reaching the U.S.

  1. “The White House says the U.S. is fully capable of defending itself after a North Korean ballistic missile attack.” Maybe instead of “defending itself,” that should read “retaliating.”

A defense would be a preventive measure, and we have nothing like that. In fact, North Korea already has a satellite in orbit over our heads, and for all we know it is carrying a nuclear weapon to generate an electromagnetic pulse that will destroy our electrical infrastructure and economy.

    • “A defense would be a preventive measure, and we have nothing like that”

Oh, yes, we very much do. For example, we have missiles in Ft. Greeley, Alaska (I’ve been there) and elsewhere, that will take down anything NK shoots at us.

…and defense is not (only) preventive; check your English dictionary.

The NK satelline, which orbits over our head for only a few minutes every day, is tumbling out of control and totally inoperative. NK does not have the capability to package a nuclear device in a way that would allow it to survive the launch environment, nor do they have the command and control to accurately detonate one.

    • We know that Doomsday EMP weapons like the one you’re talking about aren’t even Science Fiction. They’re pure fantasy. So no. That’s not going to happen.

  2. The story leaves the USA looking good and Korea as incapable.

Nothing is further form the truth and the USA and Israel know it, yet are “playing dumb” as though there is no real threat.

What they conveniently forgot to tell the world is what everyone knows and that is that:

Iran has Rockets which is nuclear-warhead capable but Iran does not yet have the nuclear bomb.

Korea has the Bomb but doesn’t have the Rockets yet.

It’s no secret that the 2 have made a pact that each side will give the other what it needs and together the 2 nut-case-heads, Meshugaim can destroy the world, very easily – unless we destroy them first.
