Tel Aviv – Students at an Israeli high school were in an uproar on Monday after a teacher mistakenly sent them an internal email that spelled out what faculty members really thought about them.

“Not too bright”, “Liar”, “Tactless”, “Big Baby”, “Anti-social”, “Has a thing for boys” and “Sick-o” were some of the descriptions on an Excel spreadsheet that landed in students’ email boxes.

Protesting outside the Yitzhak Rabin High School in Kfar Saba, a town north of Tel Aviv, students pinned some of those descriptions on their shirts and demanded an apology, which its principal made.

“We will draw conclusions about our behavior and the way we express ourselves,” the principal, Ruth Lazar, was quoted as saying by the YNet news site.

The list, which also contained praise for a number of students, was compiled by teachers as a guide to potential misbehavior by the teens due to take part in a school visit to Holocaust sites in Poland, a trip that has become a rite of passage for many Israeli youngsters.

One of the teachers inadvertently copied the list to students who signed up for the trip, the school said.

To the fool of a teacher that made this mistake, all of the labels apply.

But seriously, it is a scary job for a school to be in charge of a group of teen agers of both sexes for 24/7. Kids will be kids.

Sounds SO very typical of some Israelis who made an art of putting other Yidden down. Their favorite sport is comparing siblings, and the one who in their eyes doesn’t measure up to the standards of the other is made to feel that they are garbage. I have seen this time after time with Israelis, and there is something very lacking in their derect eretz.

As a veteran teacher, I say the teacher responsible for this should be fired & the principal sanctioned. That is horrible.

The first grade rebbi in the school where I used to send my sons was overheard calling his students ‘weird” “stupid” and “dumb’ When confronted he denied it. But the boys know what they heard. My son told me he heard this kind of thing a few times. He is an arrogant man not fit to work with children. He’s been there 18 years. Hes as phoney as they come What do you do when your son comes home and tells you this ?? You find a different yeshiva. There are not that many in my city to choose from.

I was in the First Grade many years ago and I missed 2 months for medical reasons. The first day back I raised my hand to participate in class but I had the wrong answer. The rebbe gave a dismissive wave of his hand that I remember to this day. I was hurt and I can assure you this and other behavior by this rebbe pushed me down for decades.

First of all, I don’t see that the presence of that spreadsheet of itself is such a big deal; that it found its way into the students inboxes, which of cause is a regrettable mistake. But even more to the point: this happened in some secular school, in a place very far away. What does it have to do with us? What business is it of ours?

How ironic that it happened at Yitzchak Rabin High School, whose namesake made a religion out of denigrating others.

In the news article:”The list, which also contained praise for a number of students, was compiled by teachers as a guide to potential misbehavior by the teens due to take part in a school visit to Holocaust sites in Poland, a trip that has become a rite of passage for many Israeli youngsters.” Why is such a trip necessary for youngsters? Let adults go on such trips if they wish to.
