According to Israel Hayom (http://bit.ly/1aRXy4y) Yesh Atid member Ruth Calderon ignited an intense discussion in the meeting of the Israeli government when during her speech, she targeted the yeshiva students present in the visitors’ gallery.
Calderon asked the students why they were sitting quietly instead of studying materials or attending the Beit Midrash. She accused them of using the Torah as a reason to act lazy, and admonished them for not using the taxpayer-funded education.
Presiding chairman Yitzhak Vaknin stated Calderon’s comments were “out of place” and that “no one can dictate to others what to do.”
So Charedim are never allowed to do anything but sit and learn, according to her!
Aren’t Charedim, as is everyone else, entitled to some down time, some rest and relaxation. Pretty dumb outburst, especially for an Israeli MK!
She makes a valid point.
Its funny how they always yell that the chrediem should learn math and civics. Well here some poor buchorim wanted a lesson of democracy in action, instead the got a lesson of hate from those pathetic self hating hiporcites.
She doesn’t look like a yid that understands what yidishkyt is all about. Why is she living in such a holy country? Just to intimidate the frum jews. These are the real anti semites. They are in eretz yisrael to destroy yiddishky from within.
Does she celebrate chanuka? Whats chanuka all about? Whats purim all about?
Nes chanuka or purim didnt happen becasue of people like her!
The bochrim were listening to her mussar shmuz
Love it. Maybe she shouldnt have said it, but you have to love it that she is yelling about bitul torah
1st they could have been tourists
We have a need for people to answer this juicy question
that will be a Radical Kiddush Hashem because what she said is the nicest way it will be asked by those in who in opposition
its sad that her motivation is with a עין רעה
She looks full of hatred.
“Calderon admonished them for not using the taxpayer-funded education.”
They don’t want you, neither your taxpayer-funded education – not to turn out like you, hater of your brothers!
How did she know they were yeshiva students. Were they holding big signs saying so? Maybe they had just come from a hard days work.
My rav, a high-school rebbe, always says regarding the endless questions he fields from bachurim: two people can ask the same question – except one would be a talmid chacham and one would be a rasha. It all depends on the spirit in which it was asked.
I apply the same principle to Ms. Calderon’s statement, which TECHNICALLY are not incorrect vis-a-vis the definition of bittul torah. I’m not judging her motives, as only G-d can. But she knows where she stands.
That was my brother from Houston visiting the Knesset for thanksgiving vacation. He will be back in the United States next Thursday .
That Lady has a nerve!
If they are getting deferments and government funds then they should treat the beis medresh like a full time job and during yeshiva hours not be wasting time attending the Knesset, shopping, having BBQs or going out to eat. Period.
maybe they were doing research what it was /will be like under the Hellenist
A face like a good old-time commissar in the KGB.
This woman is an absolute witch. If she has ever spent any time on a Tzahal base or with a sherut leumi group, she would know that the massive amount of time wasted by them is simply unparalleled in the Haredi yeshivas. The wicked chilonim can’t have it both ways, if they want us to become more integrated and learn about the secular world, how dare they publicly shame us for attempting to do so. This is absolutely disgusting and Calderon should be ashamed of herself. Does she think this immature outburst will increase the appreciation of bochurim and their roshei yeshiva for limudei chol? What an absolute idiot.
