As reported by The Montreal Gazette (http://bit.ly/IriBjs) the department of youth protection services in Quebec have ordered the group to appear at a hearing scheduled for Wednesday at the St. Jerome courthouse.

Almost 200 members of the group fled from Chathum, Ontario, last week and did not attend the original hearing.

Metro News Canada (http://bit.ly/185FrnN) has reported that Nachman Helbrans confirmed the families would be at the hearings. Helbrans is the son of the Lev Tahor leader and rabbi Schlomo Helbrans.

At this time, it is uncertain how the Quebec child protection authorities would be able to access the children if the order is granted.

Many families in the ultra-Orthodox sect plan to stay in Chatham for at least one year and have leased houses in the community.

How pathetic! I’d like to keep an objective view and not be victim to Loshon Horah and worse but something about this photo and the publicity around them seems very very wrong…. All Jews are wonderful; one more stringent than the other; this just seems very wrong. If anyone has STRAIGHT AND HONEST FACTS about these (this seemingly cult) please share your views and facts. A Sefaradi turned Ultra Chassidic; I wonder!!!!!

These people did nothing wrong by their kids. Their kids are happy, healthy and well adjusted B”H. The authorities are after them because they don’t want to teach Quebec’s required curriculum (which affects all Quebec frum institutions) because it teaches things contrary to Yiddishkiet. Also probably because they dress differently than most they are picked on by others. I personally know these people and they are warm, friendly, kind etc. This is a modern day pogrom, plain and simple.

No matter how much wrongdoing or sick an allegedly Frum person is, there will always be some people either making excuses for them or denying facts.

The men look Jewish, the women look Arabic. Whose tradition is this?

The story is wrong. The group did not flee Chatham, they went from Ste. Agathe, Quebec, TO Chatham, which is in the neighbouring province of Ontario. in Canada, provinces are similar to what Americans call states. Each province has its own rules on child welfare and education, although, unlike the U .S., the Criminal Code applies everywhere in Canada.
