Kiryas Joel, NY – Members of the Brooklyn-based Hasidic clothing retailer Glauber’s Quality Clothing have filed a federal lawsuit in an effort to block their brother and co-founder from opening a competing store using the family name and logo.

NYPOST.com (http://nyp.st/1U5epoK) reports that the suit is seeking an immediate stay against the renegade sibling who is set to open Glauber’s Traditional Clothing in Monroe, less than a mile from one of the family’s successful locations in Kiryas Joel.
The suits argues that the Glauber’s Quality Clothing has worked tirelessly since its inception in 1985 to establish a stellar reputation for selling Hasidic mens clothing and that the brother’s new store, Glauber’s Traditional Clothing, is attempting to capitalize on the family’s reputation.
Court papers said, “Garments offered for sale by defendant and intended for sale to the Chassidic men’s community bear a label which not only contains our trademark, but contains a logo intended to emulate the logo of the plaintiff.”
Michael Steinmetz, an attorney for Glauber’s Traditional Clothing, called the suit an “ambush” by family members and said a ruling in the suit’s favor would have a “devastating” affect on the store’s grand-opening.
How about going to Bais Din.
I would expect better from Hasidaim.
Guess not.
we need to get along not fight more fights.
then we wonder, “why are there terrible things happening in klal yisroel??? why is Hashem upset at us” this is certainly one reason CHAVAL!!!
when mishpocho compete with each other & dont go to simchos… beis din means nothing. may we who are NOT involved learn a lesson and clean up our own petty fights even if they are on a much smaller scale
We’re not supposed to use American courts!!!!!
What a shanda this is.
Shame
its a beth din problem , now that doesnt mean secular courts are any better , but one would expect more sincere rabunim sitting by beth dins than there are today ,unfortunately its not happening and only getting worse , without mentioning any names i believe the tzubir knows wath i am talking about
I guess they don’t believe that Hashem gives Parnassah. Do they think that Hashem can’t figure out the difference between “traditional” or “quality”? How could so-called religious Jews be so lacking in Emunah?
Nebech, nebech, It is so true that each generation is lower than the one before it. For a family to air it’s dirty linen in public this way to the goiysha vorlt, makes both parties look very bad. There are TWO Satmar rebbes, so why can’t there be TWO stores.
Lets teach them a lesson for making a “Chiluel Hashem” lets go Glaubers (the new store)
how do we know that esav was chassidish?? well he had 400 followers he wore a fur coat and he fought with his brother. this is ridiculous when it comes to money the gloves come off.
Its all up were reb. Zalmen is making his Bekitcha and were Reb. Aron is making his Bekitcha. That will basically decide..
One brother not fargining another brother. You would think that they were impoverished. ..
Shame…no mattwr what.
Wish your brother well.
Hashem has enough where that comes from…
Helping your brother to be matzliach can only bring bracha not loss.
What twisted mentality.
Nothing can ever be taken from someone without Hashem wanting that to happen.
Shame we need to be in the Media..
Chillul Hashem of the highest sort!
Ein kol chodosh tachas hashemesh…
Back in 1904, a German man named August Horch founded an auto manufacturing plant named after himself, Horch Motorwagenwerke, but he wound up losing control of the company. He then tried to start a new company called Horch Automobilwerke, and got sued by his old company who claimed that the new name was too close to theirs. Having lost the rights to his own name, he decided to translate it into Latin instead. (horch = “Hear!” = Audi)
Ironically, Audi Automobilwerke survived WWII and is still around, while the old one is long forgotten. Maybe the second Mr Glauber ought to translate his name into some other language. Call it Maimin, maybe?
How about calling it Glauber-45?
there are stupid family feuds, and even stupider family feuds.
It would be virtually impossible for a court to deny a person the right to use his own name for his own business, e.g., Glauber’s clothing, Moishe’s bakery.
It is not possible to trademark your own name so as to prevent other people with the same name to use that name.
