Rabbi Shmuelevitz, who served as Rosh Yeshiva at Jerusalem’s Mir Yeshiva, suffered for years from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Myasthenia Gravis.

Son of the famous Rabbi Chaim Shmuelevitz, the Poland-born Refael fled the country after the Nazi invasion, following Mir Yeshiva to stops in Lithuania, Japan, and Shanghai before ultimately settling in Israel.

As reported earlier by VIN News, as part of a pioneering stem cell trial for ALS sufferers in 2012, Rabbi Shmuelevitz temporarily regained his ability to walk and speak clearly, but ultimately his illnesses took their toll.

Not to minimize the great loss of a Godol , and thats the most important thing to realize , I still wish to point out a few minor observations I made from these pictures…..I welcome your comments………….

From the pictures it seems (although not necessarily true)……….
Very few Chasidic people participated in this levaya……Most of the crowd are young yeshivah talmidim, where are the older Rabbonim and Rosh yeshivos ?…..Although I saw a few Talmidim in anguish and mournful state, most seem to be complacent and show little emotion…….at least half of the crowd insists on turning their hat brims up instead of the regular way how they would wear it in shabbos…

Back to the main point….I wish I could have heard a Shiur or shmuze from Reb Rephael ZTL…Anybody know if there is anything online from him ?
