Monticello, NY – A rash of broken windows at Woodbourne storefronts has hopefully come to an end, with two teens arrested Monday by the Fallsburg Police Department.
Fallsburg police scoured video surveillance footage and spoke with area residents, with their investigation leading them to a 13 year old from South Fallsburg and a 14 year old Woodbourne resident.
Both were interviewed by police in the presence of their parents and were charged with criminal mischief in the third degree for incidents that took place on October 1st, October 16th and October 22nd.
The two were found to have thrown rocks through windows at eight different stores on Main Street in Woodbourne. Police said that it does not appear that the attacks were religiously motivated.
While Detective Travis Hartman of the Fallsburg Police Department would not confirm that the businesses attacked were Jewish owned as previously reported on VIN News (http://bit.ly/2dUqZv1), police said that notifying all business owners of the damage has been difficult because of the Succos holiday.
Fallsburg supervisor Steven Vegliante praised the town’s police department for its swift efforts in apprehending the two and called for greater unity among area residents.
“We must continue all our efforts to maintain positive attitudes and cooperation between our culturally diverse community and we thank our police officers for their help in this regard,” said Vegliante.
