REUTERS/Kevin Lamarque Washington – President Donald Trump abruptly fired FBI Director James Comey Tuesday, saying it was necessary to restore “public trust and confidence” in the nation’s top law enforcement agency following several tumultuous months.

“The FBI is one of our nation’s most cherished and respected institutions, and today will mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement,” Trump said in a statement.

The White House said the search for a new FBI director was beginning immediately.

The White House made the stunning announcement shortly after the FBI corrected a sentence in Comey’s sworn testimony on Capitol Hill last week. Comey told lawmakers that Huma Abedin, a top aide to Hillary Clinton, had sent “hundreds and thousands” of emails to her husband’s laptop, including some with classified information.

On Tuesday, the FBI said in a two-page letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee that only “a small number” of the thousands of emails found on the laptop had been forwarded there while most had simply been backed up from electronic devices. Most of the email chains on the laptop containing classified information were not the result of forwarding, the FBI said.

Comey, 56, was nominated by President Barack Obama for the FBI post in 2013 to a 10-year term. Praised for his independence and integrity, Comey has spent three decades in law enforcement and has been no stranger to controversy.

Trump would not be President if Hillary was not a corrupt manipulative nasty piece of work. Have the Democrats fired her?

Comey’s going to spill his guts now. All the junk Trumpie pulled in the campaign will come out in investigations this summer. Trumpf’s attempt here to disrupt the current FBI investigation against him has backfired.

    Dear Prince of Nigeria,

As you certainly recall, for years I have been rebuffing your generous offers to pursue business opportunities in your country, with nothing more than the excuse that Nigeria suffers from too much political interference in the rule of law . . .

To:1- Your comment is what is defined as bubba meises; Trump would have beaten Hillary, without Comey’s interference. Incidentally, all of the Trump haters and the left leaning news media is going to make a big tsimmis about this firing. Yet, in 1993, when Bill Clinton fired the FBI Director, William Sessions, everyone was silent. Under Comey, the FBI has become too political. For example, to this date, there have been several attacks in the USA perpetrated by radicalized jihadists, which for political reasons, the FBI won’t officially label as terrorist attacks (i.e. the Somali knife attacker in the shopping mall in St. Cloud, MN; a similar attack by a Somali on the campus of Ohio State University; the attack by an African from Guinea, on an Israeli owned restaurant in Columbus, Ohio). J. Edgar Hoover, held his position as Director of the FBI for forty eight years. Since his death, forty five years ago, there have been fourteen Directors of the FBI!

Miss Yates told Congress yesterday that FBI men were so very alarmed by General Flynn’s “underlying conduct” that they went to the White House in January. The next day the President fired the FBI Director. Pretty handy to be able to fire the policemen investigating you.
