Dyker Heights, NY – FDNY Confirms Arson In Fatal Brooklyn Fire, Police Question Suspect

    The FDNY’s tweeted this morning that fire marshals described the fire as “deliberately set.”

    According to ABC News (http://7ny.tv/2yPemh6) a 22 year old woman with a history of mental illness was being questioned by authorities after saying that she had set fire to items that were in the hallway. The woman, a resident of the building, has had an ongoing dispute with neighbors about property left in the hallway.

    Authorities believe that the woman used an accelerent when she started the fire which took place on Thursday morning at 6709 11th Avenue as previously reported on VIN News (http://bit.ly/2yONrlo). No working smoke detectors were found in the building.

    An NYPD spokesperson said that they are questioning a suspect at the 68 precinct but declined to release any further details.

    Over 100 firefighters were called to the scene to fight the flames which completely gutted the three story building. Third floor residents 58 year old Xi Huang and 56 year old Feng Xu were pronounced dead at the scene. Several residents were rushed to Maimonides Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. Three firefighters were also injured in the massive blaze.
