Jerusalem – In a meeting two weeks ago, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat and US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman discussed potential locations for which the US embassy might set up camp in the capital, Barkat said.

The meeting was held a week after US President Donald Trump announced the United States recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Barkat did not specify which places were discussed, but stressed the initiative was discussed at the request of the Americans.
“We met two weeks ago. We created a framework in which we are assisting them to think together about their different alternatives [of locations],” he said in an interview to Army Radio.
“We currently checking different alternatives. We are doing it on their demand, and alongside with them — and in confidentiality,” he added.
Regarding the move of the Guatemalan embassy to Jerusalem, Barkat commended President Jimmy Morales for the move, and said they would schedule a meeting with the local ambassador in order to coordinate the move.
“We should check with them how they want to conduct the move,” he said. “Luckily, the relationship between Israel and Guatemala was always great. There’s even a street and school named after Guatemala.”
“We will elaborate this great relationship and see how we can assist them,” he added.

Why rebuild when you can just update the consulate in Jerusalem and call it the US Embassy and it would be cheaper then spending millions on some thing that already exist. So instead of spending millions the US would be spending a few $100,000 on the up date. The ex Embassy building can then be the consulate in Tel Aviv plus use it for storage and other Tel Aviv events. US penny wise, pound foolish. Just keep on kicking can down the road, excuses, excuses.
