Hejere, Ethiopia – ZAKA Team Angered By No Access To Ethiopian Airlines Crash Site

Investigators from Israel examine wreckage at the scene where the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 Max 8 crashed shortly after takeoff on Sunday killing all 157 on board, near Bishoftu, or Debre Zeit, south of Addis Ababa, in Ethiopia Tuesday, March 12, 2019. (AP Photo/Mulugeta Ayene)Hejere, Ethiopia – An emergency response team from Israel, dispatched to Ethiopia to search for remains of victims of the Ethiopian Airlines disaster, said they are frustrated because they have not been able to access the site where the plane crashed.

Members of the ZAKA team were seen at the site earlier this week, but they were not permitted to extract material. An Israeli official said the team in Ethiopia is frustrated.

Two Israelis were among the 157 killed in the plane crash.

Relatives have been wailing and beating their chests at the site of the Ethiopian Airlines crash as others picked through the rubble for any sign of the 157 people who died.

Some family members have expressed frustration with the pace of the investigation and release of information.

While a bulldozer navigates the dusty scene with piles of debris, investigators, searchers and others wander the ground, some with large clear plastic bags. Blue plastic sheeting covers the wreckage of the plane.

People from 35 countries died in Sunday’s crash. More families are expected to arrive on Thursday.

France says it will analyze the data from the plane’s black box.

    1. WADR to the great work that Zaka does, what exactly did they expect?
You can’t just show up in another country and expect to be allowed onto the site of an investigation and “extract material.”

    2. The priority of ZAKA is to recover Jewish remains, while the priority of the host country is to gather all evidence for an investigation. The site can’t be tampered with

    3. The last sentence shows how far the reputation of the US has fallen under Trump. There is no one running the FAA, and the Ethiopians are sending the black boxes to France to be read, as they do not trust the US or Boeing.

    4. 1. ZAKA is not a governmental body, therefore they are extended the same curtesy that any civilian would be given, they were not asked by the locals to show up therefore don’t ask like crybabies.

    5. If the remains can be positively identified, that is one thing; however, in this case, there are (I’m sorry to be gross) pieces left of human remains, as the plane struck the ground at a very high rate of speed and exploded. The same thing occurred on 9/11/02, in Shanksville, PA, with Flight 93. Even with DNA, it is impossible to positively identify everyone on board.
