JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli security authorities are working with security authorities in India to prevent a possible terror attack on Jewish or Israeli targets on Yom Kippur.
An alert of such an attack during the Jewish holidays and specifically on Yom Kippur was issued based on intelligence information received from the security agencies of other countries, Israel’s Channel 12 reported.
Security has been increased at the Israeli embassy in New Delhi, synagogues, Chabad buildings, and Jewish schools, as well as restaurants and hotels frequented by Israeli and Jewish travelers, according to the report.
According to the information obtained by the security authorities in India, the terrorist cell planning the attack is linked to al-Qaeda and other terrorist cells affiliated with the Islamic State, and it also plans to hit Israeli and Jewish community targets around the world.
The Mumbai Chabad House was one of several sites attacked in the city over four days in November 2008 by a Pakistani Islamist group that left 166 dead — including Chabad house directors Rabbi Gavriel and Rivkah Holtzberg and four other Jewish visitors to the building.
