According to the official complaint, Yosef Ziegler is being accused of robbing 4 different banks, in January, April, June & October respectively. In all but one of them, he allegedly threatened that he was in possession of a bomb. In the other, he allegedly used a handgun. According to the complaint, the amount of money stolen totals over $200,000.
The FBI detailed their investigation leading up to the arrest in the complaint. Factors leading up to arrest included matching Yosef’s vehicle to the one driven by the bank robbber, comparing Yosef’s Facebook and DMV photo to surveilance taken from one of the robberies during which his face was visible, and finally, confirmation of a phone with the number belonging to Yosef having been in the vicinity of all 4 locations within a day or two leading up to the robberies. This was verified via historical cellsite data. Furthermore, the same phone was verified to have been in airplane mode during all 4 robberies.
There is also surveilance footage from one of the banks showing who appears to be Yosef walking into the bank’s atrium after the bank was closed and peering inside.
The full complaint can be read here.
Sick, sad and stupid.
In my town, there was a rash of bank robberies years ago. The police caught the robber after the first robbery and sometimes after the second. Only one made three robberies before getting caught. This amateur robbed four banks?
I will have to be him dan l’kaf zechus that he may well have a gambling addiction for which he requires immediate help.
first time I remember a ‘frum’ person doing such things. What is with him? is he sick?
This dude simply was lazy to sign papers and impatient to wait for money to be transferred and cashed out. He just took the quicker route.
Hashem judges us the way we judge others. Until you are in his shoes you have no idea what he could have gone through to do something like this.
