NEW YORK (VINnews) — Detective Joseph Seals, 40, a father of five who heroically confronted the criminal suspects in Jersey City and was gunned down by them in cold blood, was the first victim in an attack which ultimately took the lives of three other innocent people, including two Jews.

Seals had spent 18 years in law enforcement and was Jersey City’s leading officer in removing guns from crime-filled districts. The veteran officer joined the Jersey City police force in 2006, according to department officials.
As we mourn the tragic deaths in our own community, it behooves us to share the burden of grief for this wonderful police officer who spent his live protecting and guarding us and ultimately paid the heaviest price. Let us please open our hearts and provide generous support for his grieving family who have lost their father and breadwinner.

This fund, which was initiated by The Chesed Fund, will be administered by prominent Jewish community activists Mr. Chaskel Bennett, Mr. Leon Goldenberg and Mr. Moshe Wulliger and directed to the Seals family after we reach our goal.
