The cruisers already had horizontal light bars that sat on top of them, but these new lights bars sit horizontally and vertically.

The goal is to make the emergency vehicles more noticeable, especially from a distance.

They hope that makes it easier for you to obey the state’s Move Over Law.

For now, troopers are only the light bars to see if they make a difference. They have not said how long they plan on studying the impact.

“It’s incredibly dangerous on the side of the roadway and most of the people don’t have any idea because they’ve never been on the side of the road and if they have it’s only been for moments,” Trooper Mark O’Donnell told WHEC TV. “But the police officers, the fireman, the EMS people, it’s their 8 to 12-hour shift is in the roadway or on the side of the road so give us a break.”

The NYPD highway patrol had these years ago. It made it much easier to see the cop cars in traffic. I don’t know why they stopped using them.

The high price of tickets has to be used for something I guess.
