NEW YORK (JTA) — A group of African-American clergy and civil rights leaders gathered by the Rev. Al Sharpton met with a New York rabbi in the wake of the attack on Jews in Monsey.

The African-American leaders met Monday with Rabbi Marc Schneier, president of the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, to condemn the spate of attacks on Jews in New York in recent weeks.

“I am terribly disturbed by the recent anti-Semitic attacks on Jews, and particularly because they were perpetrated by members of the African-American community,” Sharpton said at a news conference following the meeting. “Rabbi Schneier and I have worked together for many years to bring our respective communities closer together. Today, we must work together to start to repair the damage and terrible pain these acts have caused.

“We in the African-American community know all too well how abhorrent hatred, based on physical appearance or religious observance, is. We cannot now be a part of something that members of our community are doing to other people.”

Schneier said he discussed with the leaders “concrete ways the Jewish and African-American communities can come together to promote our common interests and stem the differences that lead to such violent acts of hatred.” He added that Sharpton’s leadership “will help us repair the damage these acts of domestic terrorism have caused our two communities.”

Sharpton is founder of the National Action Network, a civil rights organization with chapters throughout the United States.

In May, the civil rights activist and MSNBC host acknowledged at a Reform Judaism gathering his role in stoking division, recounting how the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s widow reprimanded him for his “cheap” rhetoric. Sharpton reportedly has expressed regrets privately to Jewish leaders for the incendiary rhetoric that helped fuel the Crown Heights riots in 1991 in which a yeshiva student was killed by black protesters.

The demonstrations were sparked by the accidental killing of a black child in Brooklyn by a car driven by a member of the Lubavitcher rebbe’s entourage.

Sharpton can’t do anything about antisemitism in the Black community. But what will Jews do about the disgusting racism in the ‘frum’ community? That’s somthing to get done.

It’s never too late to repent I guess. So yeah he has done tremendous damage over the years but if he has changed his views and still holds influence with the Black community then this change of heart and action should be welcomed. Now I hope he meets with some orthodox/chassidish rabbis.

S & S, Sharpton & Schneier. What a pair.

Where would we be without such exalted, holy, and righteous leaders?

P.S. Who does Schneier represent anyway? His sixth wife?

The only thing he’s sorry for is that the guy got there first and he wasn’t involved. And Marc Schneier has a lot of chutzpah collaborating with him after what he’s done to the Jewish community.

Lubavitcher Rebbe, with a capital R.

To Mr. Sharpton, from a Crown Heights resident, in the words of my ancestors, קוש אין הינטן.

With that said, I appreciate him doing this. I’m sure he has some angle and some ulterior motive, but I do appreciate the gesture. It really is nice to see that there were no barbs or hidden, negative, anti-Semitic jabs. It’s unusual, but he really spoke ok here.

It would have been nice if they could have gotten a few more rabbonim, but I guess they’re not all lining up for a press conference with Al. I am surprised that he couldn’t find a few chassidishe askonim just to help the photo op with some beards and payes.

Snarky remarks aside, hopefully it will open up an opportunity to teach more 7 noahide laws and implement the moment of silence that will bring an awareness of Hashem to all people.

Jews can’t control Black antisemitism. But we can try to acknowledge and diminish ‘frum’ bigotry against Blacks and anyone not from their ‘dynasty’. Or is bigotry OK in your shul and family? Maybe start to think, huh?

Rabbi Schmuley Boteach was on I-24 news this evening, and he stated that fifteen years ago, he took Al Sharpton to Israel, where they met with Shimon Peres. Boteach further stated that since that time, he has not heard any anti-semitic remarks coming from Sharpton. Although Sharpton may have apologized in private to other Jews, for his role in the Crown Heights Pogrom, he has never publicly apologized.

anonymous the Trump hater ____ Trump has nothing to do with Pittsburgh. You desperados are pinning it on him because you hate him. Trump NEVER said the things you lie about. Sharpton and Dems however, spewed hate. It’s on record, video , tape and in print. You desperate liars are in for 5 more years. Leave and move to Venezuela. No ICE will stop you. Bring reams of toilet paper, won’t you?.

There WERE fine people there. They were joined by the supremacists alright but Trump acknowledged the fine ones. Why shouldn’t he ? Don’t put CNN words in his mouth. Meanwhile the Antifa thugs ran rampant beating people and running the streets of Seattle ALL WITH DEM APPROVAL. You’re lying.

No Reverend Sharpton. It’s you that must work your tail off to straighten this out. It’s one sided…… Black New Yorker’s of both genders and of varying ages are attacking Jews for no reason than other than they are conspicuously Jewish. Unless you want a tragedy you’ll get your communities nonsense sorted out and quick. Eventually a Jew that knows how to fight back is going to be targeted and your going to be consoling someones family at their funeral.

Maybe teaching American kids to always be judging others by whether or not they “look like me” has unintended consequences,
like nurturing social divisiveness and violent hatreds.
Knee-jerk blaming our President only smacks of more partisan politics.
As quoted in above article from JTA, this time Rev. Sharpton chose not to go there.
Instead he spoke about actual issues long-missing from “the conversation”:
“I am terribly disturbed by the recent anti-Semitic attacks on Jews, and particularly because they were perpetrated by members of the African-American community…. We in the African-American community know all too well how abhorrent hatred, based on physical appearance or religious observance, is. We cannot now be a part of something that members of our community are doing to other people.”

Hey, maybe this partnership can be useful. Sharpton is a reverend without a church. Maybe Schneier can give him a room in his ‘synagogue’.

Sharpton is fake, a fraud and a phony. Only last week his National Action Network defended the anti-Semitic remarks of councilwoman Terrill-page. Now the Jewish establishment are desperate to “rehabilitate him.

Sharpton is the consummate con artist. The last occupant of the White House tried to legitimize that dog with the cooperation of the MSM.
Any decent clergy person of any denomination should disassociate themselves from being with him.
To see a so called Rabbi sucking up to him is just plain pathetic.
BTW all Trump supporters are not white Jew haters or racists. Go onto Facebook and see how many decent secular and observant Jews adore and support DJT.
Putting your trust with the Democratic Party is tantamount to suicide for Jews and Israel.
Rest assured there wasn’t a single Republican up on that stage kissing the backside of Sharpton.

Changing his stripes, is he? Be careful! This suits him now because he has an audience of the media and this will make him relevant for the time being. He is no friend of ours!
