ALBANY, NY (VINnews) – Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced new funding to harden security infrastructure and further protect communities in and around the community of Monsey, where a man attacked a home full of Jewish worshipers on the seventh night of Hanukkah on Dec. 28, 2019.

The Governor is directing $340,000 for the village of New Square to install license plate reader technology, which was used to catch the Monsey attacker, as well as other security cameras. The Governor is directing up to $340,000 to the Town of Ramapo to install the same technology on roads in and around Monsey. The expanded New York State Hate Crimes Task Force, which the Governor announced during his 2020 State of the State address, will evaluate requests from other municipalities for license plate readers.

“The hate-fueled attack in Monsey wasn’t just repugnant to our values of inclusion and diversity – it was also illegal,” Governor Cuomo said. “We have zero tolerance for the cowards who perpetrate these vile acts of hate and will use every tool at our disposal to hold them accountable. This new technology will enhance security in vulnerable communities and serve as a deterrent for future attackers.”

Automated license plate readers are high-speed, computer-controlled camera systems that are typically mounted on street poles, streetlights, highway overpasses, mobile trailers, or police squad cars. A license plate reader on the George Washington Bridge was critical in tracking the alleged Monsey attacker, ultimately leading to his capture.

This technology automatically captures all license plate numbers that come into view, along with the location, date, and time. The data, which includes photographs of the vehicle, is then uploaded to a central server and relayed to police agencies across a wide area. The expanded Hate Crimes Task Force will evaluate requests from other municipalities for similar technology.

Typical Democrat that will beat around the bush and try all other nefarious gimmicks, instead of doing what needs to be done, and that is, making it easier for the law abiding citizen to conceal carry. License plate readers is what’s going to make a violent criminal think twice. Retard!!

and a token could get u thru the bridge…..
LPR and josef Gluck could help nab a suspect.
since when is LPR a method as a “deterrent for future attackers.”
and if he enters local not thru major roads?
this wont reduce hate crime , it might help if all components of the investigation come together to nab a suspect ….
keep in mind if u have Chief Widel as ur PD head then LPR will serve nothing whatsoever.

So $340k for New Square and up to $340k for the rest of the Monsey area? New Square is not even one square mile with one entrance leading into the village. How ludicrous is that? Or rather how corrupt is that? New square is a fraction of the monsey population

Nothing like the government finding an excuse to spy on you. I’ll probably melted on police cars also. If your registration is expired we have outstanding parking tickets anywhere in the state, expect to have your car impounded. No thanks.

Disgusting that these rabbis dignify the crooked politicians who made the conditions for the attack to occur

Rabbi Rottenberg is not there by choice when the Gov makes a call or sends a messenger to invite its not easy saying no and therefore he attends and hopefully may cash in on it when another jew is in trouble .
hes investing in shatadlunis .
but then u have Rav Shlesinger pausing his shiur to bash Rabbi R’ when he wasnt up for the horrific challange.
