The detective had many years on the job, according to a report by the post.

The detective has been identified as 53-year-old NYPD Second-grade Det. Paul Federico.

According to a source close to the incident, the Federico was recently placed on modified duty and his guns were confiscated.

“Nobody seems to know why,” the source said.

Federico did not leave a note behind.

The tragic incident comes amid a wave of police suicides that shook the NYPD over last year. This incident marks the first, and hopefully last, of 2020.

If he was suicidal that would be a good reason to confiscate his gun.
