WASHINGTON (JTA) — Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has released a new campaign video in which he says he is “very proud to be Jewish” and that he looks forward to “becoming the first Jewish president in the history of this country.”

The two minute and 40 second video also blames President Trump for a rise in anti-Semitic incidents and for empowering neo-Nazis in the U.S. It includes footage of Trump saying things that many have interpreted as anti-Semitic, including comments about Jewish money at a Republican Jewish Coalition speech and his statement that Jews who vote for Democrats are “disloyal.”
It is Sanders’ second campaign video focusing on Jewishness.
During his 2016 run for the Democratic nomination, Sanders was at first reluctant to mention his Jewish heritage, although he was the first Jewish major-party candidate to win ever nominating contests.
This election cycle, he has emphasized his Jewishness.

It the past, their statements would be considered taboo. It is Jewish Congressmen like Jerrold Nadler, Adam Schiff, & Eliot Engel (as of late) who are persecuting a sitting popular President. It is well known Jews like Senator Chuck Schumer who are publicly harassing a sitting popular President. They bear the responsibility of the Trump “supporters” who are allegedly saying anti semitic statements. Bernie has it all backwards.

Bernie: Here is my exact problem with you. I will spell it out in detail so that if you come upon this you will hopefully begin to get why most of your fellow Jews feels that you are betraying them and their interests, that you are selling Israel out, pandering to the Palestinians, and to anti-semites everywhere. You are seen by many Jews (myself included) as a kapo in the sense that you do harm to your own people and to Israel based on your statements, activities, and relationships. Those who dislike Jews just love the idea that they should lose their homeland (the one Jewish state), stay in exile throughout the millennia, and continue to be persecuted. And now you made it clear that you would imperil Israel’s very existence by conditioning vital aid and friendship to that country and would bolster relations with those whose very charter call for Israel’s annihilation and death to Jews. You would want Israel to make concessions that would make it indefensible. We all saw how the land peace experiment with Gaza turned out!
Bernie, you are old enough to have lived through much of Arab-Israeli Conflict. I might expect younger people to emerge into a world where they see Israel in control, militarily superior, and victorious in all its wars against what they view as the poor downtrodden underdog Palestinians. Well the intended victim does not become the perpetrator simply because they happened to win all of their defensive wars against those who vowed to annihilate them and the countries that helped them in this failed effort. Had Israel lost any of its wars it would be eliminated and all Jews would be gone – just like most Arab countries expelled all of their Jews after expropriating all of their land, homes, and assets. So do you blame Israel for winning its wars? Perhaps the members of your family who were killed in the Holocaust would not have met such a tragic fate if Israel had been established back them. And even today it serves a haven for persecuted and marginalized Jews from so many different countries.
By taking the positions that you do you get to showcase your misplaced moral outrage and your self-righteous indignation as if to say “ I may be Jewish but I am soooo fair-minded that even I would act against my co-religionists and Israel just to prove how humane I am.” This is a way for you to perhaps score points with all of the Jew and Israel haters out there but you cause irrevocable damage to US-Israel relations and imperil the latter in ways that you have no clue – or simply don’t care about. Israel was not created to go away and the so-called “Palestinians” are largely reaping what they sowed. Of course those who wanted to live in peace with Jews do so as equal citizens in Israel.
The bottom line is that we don’t need to hear how proud you are to be Jewish – we need you to demonstrate it and do right by your people! JS
