NEW YORK (AP) – Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the economic toll of the coronavirus outbreak will be dramatic in New York and castigated federal officials for what he called a failure to address lost revenue in their $2.2 trillion relief package.

“The Congressional action, in my opinion, simply failed to address the governmental need,” he said Thursday at a state Capitol news conference. “I find it irresponsible. I find it reckless.”

Cuomo said the outbreak creates a “double whammy” of increased state costs and lost revenue as businesses shutter and workers are laid off. The governor said the state will have to adjust its budget plan for the fiscal year beginning April 1 because revenue figures are so uncertain.

While the relief plan before Congress would send $5 billion for COVID-19-related expenses, Cuomo said the larger issue is lost revenue.

      • What do you mean ingrate. New york remits billions of more dollars to the federal government than it gets back in federal money. When midwestern state have tornadoes and other states flood in places where they shouldn’t build in the first place, they get aid repeatedly. This isn’t tzedaka. We got delayed and nickel and dimed on hurrican sandy while Florida gets an open wallet every year for flooding. This is not the president’s money. It’s taxpayer money and New York has been shortchanged for years including 2nd avenue railroad project while Alaska gets a multimillion dollar bridge for 4 people and a polar bear.

        • I am not convinced that your argument of since ny pays most taxes it deserves the most back in return , is a fair argument . That’s not the way it works . Besides the tax payments are simply a result of nyc being the financial headquarters where companies like to be domiciled in . I don’t know if that means it’s tax collections are from people living here .

Nyc also wastes too much . It took way to long to build that second ave subway and the costs were estronomical. Nyc needs to re-elect a Robert mosses who gets things done 123. No monkey business . Yes the skulena bm in Williamsburg had to relocate bec mosses plowed thru it but look what was built and how quickly .

I do agree too much waster to empty projects in Alaska .

        • Stop lying, where do you think NY gets the money they send to Washington? The rich people who live in NY own companies which the rest of the country buy things from, so the fact that most of the owners live in NY and pay their taxes to the feds from NY doesn’t change the fact that the money was originally coming from elsewhere, just remember Cuomo spent 750 million dollars on a failed solar farm riddled with coroption instead of paying 2/3 of that to buy ventilators, instead they decided that in case of pandemic they will have doctor’s decide who lives or dies.
