BNEI BRAK (VINnews) — In the wake of the efforts by police and security forces to enforce  public health regulations in Chareidi enclaves, Home Command soldiers entered Bnei Brak Tuesday in order to distribute food parcels to needy families and old people who have difficulty in going out of their houses and buying food during the period of the coronavirus, according to a report by Ynet. Some of the families are in isolation due to a family member having contracted the virus, as Bnei Brak has the highest rate of infection in Israel.

Soldiers in a cadet course and in officers training courses worked in tandem with the Bnei Brak municipality and welfare services who directed the soldiers on how to prepare the parcels and distribute them from door to door as well as performing activities for senior citizens in nursing homes.

A female soldier who participated in the operation told Ynet that “this was a moving and beautiful gesture. You go into people’s houses in uniform- an unusual sight in Bnei Brak – and everyone receives you pleasantly, so nicely, with smiles and lots of compliments. The soldier said that there were no incidents of friction between residents and soldiers.
