NYC Residents Should Cover Face When In Public, Mayor Says

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has recommended that the city's 4 million people wear masks when going outside amid the spreading coronavirus. Garcetti on Wednesday said people in the nation's second-largest city who are performing essential tasks such as food shopping should wear homemade, non-medical face coverings, or even bandannas. NEW YORK (AP) – New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio asked New Yorkers to wear a face covering when they go outside and will be near other people.

He cited research showing asymptomatic people could be spreading the virus without realizing it. De Blasio told a press briefing that until now, “there just wasn’t evidence” to support the move.

“When you put on that face covering, you’re protecting everyone else,” he said.

The mayor said it could be a scarf or a bandanna or anything homemade, but it should not be a surgical mask needed by frontline medical workers.

A recent study by researchers in Singapore became the latest to estimate that somewhere around 10% of new infections may be sparked by people who carry the virus but have not yet suffered its flu-like symptoms.

In response to that study and others, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention changed how it defined the risk of infection for Americans. The agency’s new guidance targeted people who have no symptoms but were exposed to others with known or suspected infections. It essentially says that anyone may be a carrier, whether that person has symptoms or not.

I do not support the mayor, but when he tells the truth (as a broken clock is right twice a day), you should listen.

They knew a long time ago that masks are somewhat effective in limiting COVID-19 contagious people from spreading the virus.
They knew a long time ago that many people are asymptomatic yet contagious. So what “evidence” was the mayor waiting for to say that all people should be wearing a mask when going out or intermingling with other people?

I will not listen to this clown Mayor!
I will wear a mask for the limited benefit it might provide, as I have been.I resent anything this mayor says. I listened to him during the first week of March stating;
1, Mass transit is safe
2, Go eat in restaurants
3, Mingle and continue as there are zero cases in NYC.
This clown moron should have begun precautions earlier.

Mr. Mayor ____
At least you changed your mind. Not long ago you laughed it up.. Telling us to prance on the streets, chow down at Chinese New Year festival and you uttered DESPITE CORONA. Anyway, go back to your Park Slope gym and reconsider running for president.
