BEN GURION AIRPORT (VINnews) — An unusual “shidduch without borders” was completed last night at Ben Gurion airport, with the Chasan making a cameo appearance at the Israeli border checkpoint in the airport and the Kallah receiving special permission to join him in the arrivals lounge before he got on the next flight and left Israel.

The story started when Rav Chaim Elazar Rosenfeld, the director of Bayit Le’Pletot in Jerusalem, received a shidduch offer for one of the girls residing in the institution, which was originally established to cater to Holocaust orphans but has continued to serve the community faithfully since then in its Meah Shearim campus.

The shidduch suggested involved a Chasan from abroad who agreed to come specially to Israel in order to complete the Shidduch. However the Chasan did not want to stay for two weeks in quarantine in Israel in the present situation and therefore the shidduch was delayed. After extensive negotiations with the airport it was agreed that he would come to the VIP Masada lounge at the airport without crossing the border and the Kallah and her entourage would receive a special permit to enter the lounge after being checked, wearing masks and maintaining social distance as required.

After the shidduch was completed the two mothers broke a plate as is the custom and the families drank L’Chayim. The Chasan and his family departed on the next flight out of the country and the Kallah came back to her friends to celebrate.

The entire operation was orchestrated by Rabbi Rosenfeld and the matchmaker R’ Yoeli Braun together with the staff of the VIP lounge at Ben Gurion Airport
