JERUSALEM (VINnews) — After 70 days in which Temple Mount was closed to Jews and open to a select few Muslim clergy, the authorities reopened the holy site to Jews and Muslims Sunday morning. All worshipers and all those who ascend the mount (Jews are not allowed to worship there) were obligated to wear masks and have their temperature taken before their ascent. 68 Jews ascended to Temple Mount, including former MKs Yehuda Glick and Shuli Mualem.

Prior to the reopening, during the early hours of Sunday morning, hundreds of Muslim worshipers stormed into the compound chanting slogans of “with fire and blood we will redeem Al-Aqsa.” (the mosque on the southern side of the Temple Mount compound). The worshipers were assisted by members of the Jordanian Waqf which controls the inner entrances to the compound. The Waqf opened the gates and did not attempt to implement the regulations requiring social distancing, temperature checks and masks.
