VINNEWS Op-Ed: Open Letter to the Officers of the NYPD

    Dear Officers,

In the past few weeks, and months, we have all been facing difficult and unprecedented moments.  In these challenging times, we just want to let you know that we in the Jewish community are watching your backs and are praying for you – even though it seems that your mayor and some others are not looking out for you, we realize the challenges that you face on a daily basis.

You have been sent into difficult areas.  You have been asked to do things that you just don’t want to do. Yet you do them anyway.   We understand you, and stand with you.

You are major heroes in our book – decent people just looking out for the safety of New York at large, and your own safety as well.  We know that you do not want to hurt people.  We know that you are not racist.  At times, people can make a mistake – but that is what being human is all about.  37,999 out of 38,000 have never made such a mistake – and the movement to defund you is a serious aberration of what is normal.  True, every agency needs to cut – but to use the terminology of “defunding” is a slap in the face.

Anyway, we just want you all to know, that we salute you.  You are brave, giving, noble individuals and you are the fabric of what makes this country great.  And even though we may be a bit perturbed that you are being told to shut down our stores, and to kick us out of parks, while tens of thousands of people are allowed to gather without social distancing, and some are hurling bricks at your vehicles and are shooting at you – we want you to know that we love you, we support you, and we have your backs.

May G-d Al-Mighty continue to keep you safe, and may peace rain upon all of our communities with reduced crime, reduced drugs and safer streets.

Thank you for all that you do for all of New York.  Thank you to your family members who are worried sick about you.  Give them a kiss and a hug from us and please tell them that we know what you are going through.

Be Well.  Be Safe.  And remember, New Yorkers love those who have dedicated their lives to protecting us. G-d bless you all, and your families and loved ones.

Yes its about time to express our hakaros hatov! I suggest that each of us get the mailing address or email address for the precinct each of us lives in and sends a letter or email to the men/women of that precinct. If you see a cop parked in his/her car or a fire fighter or a NY fire EMT or a hatzoloh member say “thanks for your service to our community”!

The so called ‘bad apple’ theory is fried garbage. Black Americans have been killed by racist cops in every state. Stop and frisk was ruled UNCONSTITUTIONAL. George Floyd was a police lynching and VIN has their backs? EDITORS RESPOND: NO, VIN DOES NOT HAVE THEIR BACKS. YOU ARE A RACIST AGAINST POLICE OFFICERS. VIN HAS THE BACKS OF ALL OF THE OTHER DECENT, UPSTANDING POLICE OFFICERS THAT YOU HAVE JUST SMEARED. EVERYONE REPEAT EVERYONE CONDEMNS THIS LYNCHING. YOU HAVE INDICTED ALL POLICE OFFICERS. VIN SUPPORTS THE 37,999 POLICE OFFICERS THAT DON’T DO THIS. YOUR RACISM IS WORSE THAN THAT OF THE KU KLUX KLAN. TRUE, WE MUST MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF EVERYONE – BUT BY DOING SO – DO NOT DENIGRATE THE HEROES THAT RISK THEIR LIVES CONSTANTLY TO SAVE LIVES.

We must not forget Gideon Bush A”H. EDOTOR RESPONDS: Yes, a very sad episode and one that initially was swept under the carpet. There are alternatives to guns and tasers when dealing with people that do not respond to instructions.

Families in Clifton NJ sent dinner and bagels to their police department with a big thank you note. Police have been putting up with the most despicable rhetoric and we need to show them support. I encourage you all to send them cards, cookies, coffee, or anything else to show appreciation. The only thing between us and the mob out there is God and them. Most are decent human beings who joined the force for the right reasons and have been made out to be devils! It’s unreal.

There’s clearly a problem with policing in the United States. It’s not just the “rare bad apples”. It’s also the reactions of those other officers to the bad acts of their colleagues.

Defunding may not be the right approach. But something needs to be done.

Think of our school system. There are some teachers who shouldn’t be teachers. Is that a reason to do away with the whole system? No way. Same with the police. It is a vital part of keeping our country running the way it should. You don’t do away an entire good system because of a few rotten apples.

It’s absolutely disgusting the way cops are being vilified by politicians, governers, mayors, the press and civilians. The very people these same cops risk their lives to protect.

I can tell you, these cops are a lot more admirable than me. If I was in their position, I know I’d stop protecting these people.

The worst culprit is Deblasio. Just a disgusting and vile human being.

If VIN sets up a campaign supporting our cops, I know I’d chip in.

I agree with filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock, “I am not against the police. I am afraid of the police.”

“Black Lives Matter” cares nothing about Black lives. They are only against the police that will arrest blacks that commit violent crime. It is known that a highly disproportionate number of victims of violent crime are members of the black community. By allowing the protests to continue and de-funding the police, they only increase the number of Black lives lost. “Black Lives Matter” clearly cares nothing about Black lives.
