Virus Death Toll Drops To 5 In NY, Once The US Epicenter

NEW YORK (AP) — Five people died Saturday from the coronavirus in New York state, a death toll Gov. Andrew Cuomo called “the lowest number we have had since this started.”

Saturday’s total compared to 13 fatalities the day before as the number of fatalities caused by the virus continues to plummet in the state. During the peak of the pandemic in April, nearly 800 people were dying a day from coronavirus.

“We are on the exact opposite end,” Cuomo said in an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “We have less than 800 people in hospitals — lowest number basically since we started.”

The governor cautioned, however, that the numbers could spike again if New Yorkers let down their guard down and fail to follow social distancing and mask-wearing requirements.

“I’m now afraid of the spread coming from other states because we are one country and people travel,” Cuomo said. “I’m afraid the infection rate in the other states will come back to New York and raise that rate again.”

Confirmed daily infections in the U.S. hit an all-time high of 40,000 on Friday, prompting officials in Texas and Florida to reverse course and close down bars in their states again.

U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar stressed that “the window is closing” for the U.S. to take action to effectively curb the coronavirus.

    • For the same reason we are not allowed to travel to Israel or the E.U. We have 4% of the world’s population and 25% of the Covid cases and no leadership.

Camps certainly can’t have campers from Maryland, Chicago, L.A. or Florida. Maybe if our President spent less time thinking of childish nicknames for the virus and more time on coordinating responses, testing in February through April, and encouraging social distancing and masks instead of undermining his experts, camps would have been a possibility, Instead, after one of the worst weeks since the virus began, he told a crowd in Arizona that Covid, “We’re doing so well after the plague, it’s going away.”

Is this after the plague: No

      Is it going away: No

Was Trump campaign encouraging distancing and masks: No

Did you have to sign a waiver so the campaign wouldn’t be liable: Yes

If camps are safe, why is Trump making people sign waivers to attend his rallies which is just for a few hours?

Frum camps are going to social distance? How many times have the same facilities been caught in violation of health and fire codes.

      • Furthermore, lets study second waves. In Israel its a second wave, yet hospitals are BH empty, deaths are between 0 & 1 a say. Halevi always zero unless its arabs.

Seems like something aboiut a second waive is less dangerous.

Dsiclaimer, please don’t take this a giver. lest there CVS be a second outbreak and its not as I wrote it. My point is if you combine 10 low risk factors together it makes it pelnty safe to open camps. It makes it pure OCD to shy away. There are always risks and its not 0% rather its .00001%

      • I don’t know why my first comment didn’t post .

But hey let’s leave trump out of this .

We have too infectious disease specialists like dr Glatt saying it’s ok . You always proclaim to Listen to specialists .

Camps do not have to follow social distance laws . They just have to keep it a covid free zone and lock it down . Aguda has been locked down for years already for safety reasons . The days when you can just come in and out freely are long gone . They have a gate boy . This just takes it one notch higher.

This is not Tx who never had a downward curve . 75% of frum jews got it already and so far no one in the world seems to have gotten it twice. We ended it bh way before the others in ny. ( nebach we got it first but at least it was fifo)

Like the parks in nyc , we know this is safe . And as I told you lockdowns are too detrimental. It’s simply not a viable solution. . We must fight this madness .

  1. Because we want to keep it this way. Camps closed. 5 death/day Camps/Schools open 800 death a day Rememeber? Just say Thank You Governor and enjoy the kinderlach at home and they can go to the PARKS co/ed. Trust me they will do better under your supervision than under 16 year old counselors (many of them otd)

    • Camps/Schools open 800 death a day Rememeber?

Who should I remember from? here is what I know,

Satmar open for two months already full force. How many deaths from their schools open?
Satmar made a chasna larger than the Trump rally how many deaths from that?
(As a side note porch minyanim all over town even pesach how many deaths from that?)

      Lets turn to israel schools,
Some new cases but how many deaths? 0 to 1 a day? Even there schools never killed.

Now re Texas that had night cluns and slaoons and other crazy stuff open. Besides they never had round one fully and more important never waited for a 14 day down curve.

5 Deaths down from 1000 a day makes this OCD. And deaths are a lagging iindicator which means we are ever better.

And folks surely no reason to wear masks in NY either
