ST. LOUIS (AP) — A white couple pointed guns at protesters in St. Louis as a group marched toward the mayor’s home to demand her resignation after she read the names and addresses of several residents who supported defunding the police department during an online briefing.

A social media video showed the armed couple standing outside of their large home Sunday evening in the upscale Central West End neighborhood of the Missouri city.

In the video, the unidentified couple shouted at protesters, while people in the march moved the crowd forward, urging participants to ignore them. People in the crowd included Black and white protesters.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether St. Louis police were aware of the incident. An email and phone call from The Associated Press to police weren’t immediately answered.

The group of at least 500 people was heading toward Mayor Lyda Krewson’s home, chanting, “Resign Lyda, take the cops with you,” news outlets reported.

Resignation demands come after a Friday Facebook live briefing, where Krewson read the names and addresses of several residents who wrote letters to the mayor suggesting she defund the police department.

The video was removed from Facebook and Krewson apologized Friday, stating she didn’t “intend to cause distress.”

The names and letters are considered public records but Krewson’s actions received heavy backlash.

Protesters nationwide have been pushing to “ defund the police ” following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Floyd, a Black man in handcuffs, died May 25 after a white police officer pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck for nearly eight minutes.

An online petition calling for Krewson’s resignation had about more than 43,000 signatures as of early Monday.

“As a leader, you don’t do stuff like that … it’s only right that we visit her at her home,” said state Rep. Rasheen Aldridge, D-St. Louis, speaking into a megaphone at the protest Sunday.

In most states, if someone tries to break into your home, deadly force may be used, against the perpetrators. In this case, it appeared that the homeowners did not like the demonstrators, who were marching past their home. and were not congregating by their home, or doing anything illegal. The armed homeowners were yelling at them, in an attempt to provoke the crowd. Those homeowners in my opinion, were reckless and stupid. Goyish kupps.

Some perspective. This was not a public street but a private one owned by the people living on the block as was the gate that the protesters broke. I support protesters up to a point but this seems to have been private property. On another note, neither of those people have any business handling a gun until they get some lessons. They pointed all over creation including at one another and the woman holds the gun like she’s carrying a dead bird..

Good the couple is correct. We need to stand up to terorists. These protests tend to lead to looting and destruction. If they did it to midtown what stops them from smashing this rich guys house too. And if you dare try to stop them nicely they will kill you. Since when is protecting one’s self bad behavior? We live in a crazy world

As a side note these protests are illegal. They have no permit.

“It wasn’t immediately clear whether St. Louis police were aware of the incident.”

These same people are the ones who want to defund the police, so its only fair that the Police dont get involved in this!

Seems to the crowd got at least half of their demand – there were no police.

Fsscists everywhere, like the St Loo mayor are being outed everywhere. If peaceful protesters are shot anywhere it will further feed the passion to get rid of herr trumpf in NOVEMBER. 600 cities and towns had major demonstrations vs police brutality. Don’t forget that.

Crowd broke the fence to enter this gated community. Property owners were within their rights.

the couple came out and said that the rioters who broke into their private community were threatening to kill them, kill their dog, and burn down their house. These commie rioters deserve to be shot – they are traitors to our country. They should have the same fate as Julius and Ethyl yimach shmam vezichram.

It’s ok to give a little taste of fear to these “peaceful” protesters, they have to know that they better keep it peaceful or else.
