A Williamsburg resident who has a long history with the NYPD is under arrest for a malicious attack that took place more than a week ago and left a 46 year old woman in a medically induced coma.
Police said that 27 year old Joshua Cruz of Wythe Avenue was arrested by police on Friday as he was discharged from the psychiatric unit at Woodhull Hospital.
Several callers to the NYPD’s Crimestoppers hotline had identified Cruz as the suspect in the attack which took place in the early morning hours of August 25th near Division Avenue and Rodney Street. As previously reported on VIN News, the woman was approached from behind and thrown to the floor before repeatedly assaulted.
Cruz was picked up by the NYPD’s Special Victims Unit as he left the hospital and was charged with four counts of assault, sexual abuse and forcible touching. In addition to having one prior sealed arrest, Cruz has also been arrested nine other times on various charges including robbery, assault, aggravated harassment, forcible touching and public lewdness.
