New York City Warns of Coronavirus Spike In Orthodox Communities

41

NEW YORK (VINnews) – In recent days, we have observed heightened rates of COVID-19 in many neighborhoods with large Orthodox Jewish populations. The neighborhoods that have presented higher proportions of positive COVID-19 tests—when compared to adjacent areas—include the Forest Hills and Far Rockaway sections of Queens as well as the Midwood, Williamsburg and Borough Park sections of Brooklyn.

Moreover, we are receiving what we refer to as “signals,” in smaller sections of these neighborhoods where there are anomalous spikes in cases.

Following up on our conference call, we continue to see transmission in New York City and it appears to be happening more in communities that encompass your coverage areas than in many other parts of the city. COVID-19 can be transmitted from an adult to a child and we are seeing transmission within households from adults to children in some of these communities.

The neighborhoods experiencing transmission were particularly hard hit in the worst weeks of the pandemic this past spring and we never want to return to those awful days.

We also must emphasize that these communities’ past experience with COVID-19, does not guarantee immunity from future transmission. The science has not yet established that any section of New York City has reached herd immunity or even how long immunity lasts after someone has recovered from COVID-19.

All New Yorkers, including children, must adhere to the Core 4, which includes washing hands, wearing face coverings (if older than two years of age), maintaining distance and staying home if ill. Everyone must also avoid large gatherings and safely isolate if exposed to someone who was found to have COVID-19. If safely isolating at home is difficult, the city can provide accommodations or additional resources. All New Yorkers should be getting tested. To find a testing site go to nyc.gov/covidtest or call 311.

We know everyone in these areas shares our deep concern for their families, friends and neighbors and we urge all New Yorkers to do their part to help us keep COVID-19 at bay.

Thank you.

With appreciation,

Dr. Dave A. Chokshi, NYC Health Commissioner.

Below are tables showing the increased numbers in the five neighborhoods.

Archy let me ave your breath. “but no one is dying” (there are already ppl back on respirators), ” schools are essential” (at least 264,000 students in nyc public schools are VOLUNTARILY choosing the online option).

Should people who flout the rules and ignore basic medical advice be denied treatment because they were so dumb and irresponsible during a deadly epidemic? 200,000 DEAD in USA already. Q-anon is already blaming the Jews for the epidemic. Is it true???
WEAR A MASK, DISTANCE, BEWARE OF LARGE GATHERINGS, WASH HENTALAS!

Its interesting that places following social distancing, wearing masks, are seeing the same rise in cases.

Its a well known story: R Yisroel Salanter did not go to shul on Yom Kipur Kol Nidre nighyt because on his way he heard a little boy crying. He stayed with the boy. We have already 100s of little bopys crying for their parents/grandparents. No one is obligated to go to shul this year. Daven at home.

Guys , all of us will get it one way or another , isolating urself wont prevent it just ull be of the numbers (call it second wave )that will make it look bad .
come out of hiding go by ur day norm and choose which level of craziness u want to torture yourself .
most people had it and went thru the pain or suffering if u will , stop harrasing all of us thinking ur outmanuvering the flu by doing so.
so now they dont have data yet that tells us if /how long ur imunne etc.
they also dont have data yet of the reprecussion of wearing a mask and causing ur breating to restraint.

WRONG. Places using masks, and doing social distancing, etc., have dramatically lower infection rates everywhere. That is why NY’s rate is soooo much lower than far less dense (and far more stupid) red states. Just look at the colleges. Google it. Are you ‘Sam’ rooting for the epidemic to spread?

Ifyou dont want to wear a mask or social distance yourself just go to a riot, er protest for BLM. There;s no covid sopread there, only int he Jewish communities.’

There are so many Jew haters and a large percentage are Jews, frum Jews as well, pepertrating a lie that it’s on;ly in Jewish communities that there are casees of people getting corona. This virus is not going away, it’s here to stay and we will not accept Jew haters, gentile or Jewish, decision that it’s particularly only our lifestyle that tends to spread covid-19. If you count all neighboorhoods you will see it’s the same where people live close together. And nobody can tell me that the rioters did not get coronavirus at least at the rates that frum Jews are getting. And regardless, we need to live, you dont run and hide flu the flu, neither do you do that with coronavirus after the strenght of the virus has receded due to herd immunity and exposure otherwise you will continue to do so tfor the rest of your life. It’s your choice whichever way you decide to live, that doesnt mean you can expect others to live like this forever.

I don’t think that people who are getting Covid19 now are getting it so badly, people aren’t being hospitalized and dying in droves. So we should just live our lives normally and consider this illness no worse than the common cold at this point. Let’s not get so hyped up about it.

ok so first of all lets make sure that the “spike in positive cases” is actully accurate there are many confirmed stories of tests being extremly not accurate, and stories of people that never took the test getting positive results via phone call, so we need to make sure that they know what they are doing before they shut us all down for false poitives or the other way around false negatives

whether false positive or false negative , it’s safer to shut down , but there’s a seicheldik way of shutting down . It has to be done SECHEL-DIK !!!!!
